I just watched the first four DVDs of Twin Pinks (rented through Netlfix). I believe there were 30 episodes (including pilot). I see the pilot is available for purchase on Amazon. Does anybody know if the rest of the series is available on VHS or DVD?
The 2d season is not yet available on DVD, although it appears that Paramount is working on putting it together. The excellent TVShowsOnDVD.com has a news item on it.
30 episodes? The first season I watched and I think there were only 6/7 episodes (including the pilot). Was the 2nd season any good? I thought the show was a riot. Agent Cooper was a great character, as was the sheriff… and well, most everyone on the show.
30 eps sound about right – I would have put it two or three higher, but I haven’t done a census.
Was the second season any good? Kind of a complex question. Short answer – yes, but it wasn’t as good. It lost some focus in the second season (which was like three times as long, so it’s not surprising) and the creative team tried to make it a little more accessible by adding shorter more contained stories which weren’t as engrossing as the plot(s) of the first season. (And the Tangled Up in Blue subplot with James was horrid. Like everything else with James.) Also, Lynch wasn’t around as much, although honestly Mark Frost had a lot to do with TP’s charm. But there was some great stuff in there, especially the concluding parts of the Laura Palmer mystery. I also loved the last episode, although most TP fans hated it. If you liked S1, S2 is certainly worth having, and it’s good television, but it’s not nearly as consistent as the first season was.
Hmm. That was too negative. By way of example – there are scenes in S2 (mostly the first half) that, if I’m rewatching the series (which I do about annually), I have to plan to hit those episodes Friday after work. That’s because I can’t shower for days afterwards because I know when I close my eyes to rinse out the shampoo that Bob will get me. No other show or movie or anything has ever scared me that much.
