Resurrecting tv programmes

That’s more of a tease than it is a real ending. The show deserved better.

That’s pretty much what Sorkin tried to do Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. But it didn’t work.

Where would you set a new Blackadder series? WW2 or sometime prior to Blackadder goes forth?

I’ve always wanted to see an American series closely inspired by Blackadder but I doubt that
1- it would ever happen
2- if it happened it would be halfway decent
Still, I could see the Salem witchcraft trials, Boston Tea Party and numerous other events being perfect for an illegitimate Edmund Blackadder descendant to attend.

A Victorian-era Blackadder would be good.

That was great, but we never found out who Earl Jr’s father was, which to me is the big outstanding question, not whether Earl ever finished his list.

It was hilarious when Jason Lee guest starred (as a different character) and called Barney “Kenny”, though.

Agreed. I only caught random episodes when they aired, but saw them sequentially using Netflix. Was a better show than I thought.

Me too. I got hooked on Veronica Mars even though I don’t usually bother with episodic TV much. The writing started to slip in the third season though.

Bring back Xena! Just reruns would be fine. Great time killer.

Or something set in the Roman era.

We’re missing the obvious here: Arrested Development.

I’m a HUGE West Wing fan, but I wouldn’t be for bringing it back any time soon. Haters were saying the writing, etc. got stale from the moment Sorkin left. The new show would have a tough road to hoe being compared to the early West Wing at every turn. The only way I think it’d have a chance is if you could at least assemble part of the original cast again. Whitford, Maloney, Smits, maybe find a place for Joshua Malina and you could have a fighting chance. It’s just tough since the original cast was so brilliant.

Any other workplace that would make an interesting “walk-and-talk?”

I never watched West Wing. After I heard lots of noise about it, I tried watching it once, but 2.5 minutes listening to a moronic dialog while rush-walking thru corridors was below my minimum expectations of intelligence.

The only show that should continue to be produced forever is “The Wire”.

I reckon Firefly is the closest match to Blake’s 7 you’re going to get. Of course, that’s another show everyone is desperate to see return, even though it won’t.

I want to see Journeyman return, picked up by a channel that would really spin it into something good, someone like AMC or USA.

I agree, but my point is that you get back to the cutting edge, intelligent writing of the early W.W., yes the cast were excellent but they can only be as good as their script.

Retain the original ethos, have a high standard of writing and carry on with new characters.

Two shows that I enjoyed originally were totally dire when revived.

The Prisoner and The Avengers.

I’m sure I read somewhere that the tentative plan was to base it on a 1960’s rock band, with Bald Rick the drummer. Everyone kind of moved on, so it never got much beyond the concept stage,

I thought there was a one-off set in the near future with Blackadder ending up as PM?

BTW: Has any prior resurrections ever work outside of Star Trek?

The Get Smart and WKRP resurrections were terrible. The Brady one was really bad but then the show was pretty bad itself. Then there was Munsters :shudder:

Doctor Who.

Great example and actually the best resurrection I can think of on TV. New Who is if anything better than original. For old Trekkies I doubt if many of us thought and of the new shows were as good as the original.

Twilight Zone resurrection was hit or miss but had some good shows. Not really the same though.

I think the consensus is that the new version of Battlestar Galactica is better than the original version.

Is a reboot the same as a resurrection?
