Resurrection of Online Texas hold 'em tournaments for Dopers only (revised thread)

I had quad 9’s a few weeks back, but it wasn’t at a time where I could extract much with it. I sure don’t remember any other straight flushes.

I had quads once in one of our first games.

Never saw a straight flush before last night.

Capn, that was my third straight flush on pokerroom…my first one was right after our initial “practice” game when we first started, and Aesiron was the only one who witnessed that. (I think)…the second one came in a play money tournament a couple of weeks ago…knocked out 2 players on that one…and then last Thursday.

I was holding the 10s, and the flop was 7s 9s 8s (I think), giving me the straight flush draw, and then Js came up on the turn… Woot! I thought I saw someone said that you had the As, giving you the “nut” flush. Ah well, whatever.

In a casino in Laughlin, I pulled a straight flush on a Let It Ride table, winning $3000 on a $15 dollar bet. I was dealt a Kc Qc Tc…so I let the first $5 bet ride, since they are all high cards, and the dealer pulled up the Jc. I HAD A ROYAL FLUSH DRAW! I let the second bet ride (along with the mandatory 3rd). The pit boss wandered by to see what would happen…I was chanting “Ace of Clubs, Ace of Clubs, Ace of Clubs!”…dealer pulled up a 9…DAMMIT!!! Wait, a 9c! STRAIGHT FLUSH!

Next question I asked was…Am I gonna get taxed on this? “No…only on royals” was the pit boss’ reply. Double Woot! I took a victory lap around the tables…hands up in the air, fists pumping. This was about 2:45am, so I didn’t run anyone over. Dealer also got a nice tip.

That was about 10 years ago…wish I could do it again soon someday.

You might have also heard about my last birthday trip to Mandalay Bay in Vegas. This is when I turned $100 to $800 in a few hours on the $2-$4 holdem table. One of the highlights was being dealt pocket 10s and the flop had the other pair of 10s. I was already shooting the shit with other people on the table about the previous hand, and I had started talking about 4 of a kind payouts posted on the monitors above the tables…“4 deuces is $500, that’d be cool to win…oh look, only $50 bucks for quad tens, that’s lame.” (when the 10s were already showing on the flop). I kept raising and reraising to “Pretty Boy”* on the other side of the table…and he did the same to me, saying “I don’t know why you’re still raising me when I’m holding a full boat.” (The other card on the flop was a 6, and he was holding pocket 6s)…I kept blathering about the 4 of a kind payouts while the turn and river cards came and we kept reraising each other…on the showdown, he said “See, I told you I had a full boat!”…I returned “Oh, you’re right, I should have believed you in the first place…I got this 10 here <flipping up the first card> and I got this other card…which…happens…to…be…a…ni…no, wait…oh…it’s a 10.”

Old Man next to Pretty Boy sprays coffee all over the left side of the table and is hacking for a good 2 minutes inbetween everyones laughing. Dealer wasn’t laughing since she had to call for a towel to wipe up the coffee all over the chips. The pot was about $175 and I got that “lame” $50 for the quads. Pretty Boy kept looking at me and shook his head for the following three hours and I kept pointing out other payouts for quads. That birthday kicked ass.

  • = This guy had girls, waitresses and even the female dealers drooling. To us, he was just a pretty fish.

I’ve never actually played “money” poker games at a casino. I’ve only played in little tournaments locally. What kind of stake did you have for a 2/4 game?

I brought $500 for that day, but only bought $100 in chips and I never opened my wallet again to take any more out. I’ve seen some folks cash buy $50 worth initially, and a few tight ones only buy $20 at a time.

Ah, yes…Thursday again.

Slight bit of bad news. Your favorite Capn will probably not be there tonight. The trivia league that I run at my buddy’s pub starts back up tonight. This usually means that since I’m the quizmaster and they haven’t seen me in a while and they want to get in my good graces = FREE BEER! OTOH, if I’m overcome by the cigarette smoke and feel I need to bail out, I might be home in time.

And everybody’s favorite whipping boy might not make it. I still have a load of stuff to do to get ready to leave at like 5AM tomorrow. I still haven’t packed, and then there’s those 100 limes…

I’ll see how things are shaping up come 9, but if I ain’t there, you guys will have to get those easy chips someplace else.

I’ll be there, despite a calculus test tomorrow morning and two 7-8 page papers due next week that I haven’t even started. It’s called dedication.

Damn, trying to put a guilt trip on a guy just leaving for a 4 day drunken party…

I’ll try, despite a couple of full-blown tax return problems I have to do and a paper to write. No test, though. However, if I can’t get it up and running by 10:10, I’m going to bow out, because it’ll mean that the network connection is too bad.

Sorry Duke, I didn’t realize a 4-day drunken party was involved. Your priorities are well-placed.

We have drunks converging on Memphis, TN from as far away as Alaska, Washington, Michigan, Wisconsin, Florida, you name it. Since I’d hate to miss out on the ass whipping that’s sure to be dealt to me if I play, I’ll make every effort to be there (but I won’t try to juice limes while I play, last time I did that it was a disaster to my unblemished winning streak!).

And Capn said he used to live in Memphis and asked me where we were gonna be. It’s in the Bartlett/Cordova/Germantown area FWIW.

There’s no real need for any of you to show up, since I’m not giving up my newly earned title :stuck_out_tongue:

You are gonna get the personal smackdown you deserve, Nanook…from a Yeti!

Did the game go tonight? I couldn’t find the table. I came in late again though (worked late tonight).

We switch over to a higher blinds table, and a hand or two later, I get my best hand of the night, narrowly hitting the inside draw on a K high straight on the river. I know there’s three clubs on the table, but I’m feeling alright. What’s the chance Kyy could burn me with two more in his hand? So I go all in.

Turns out the chance on THAT hand was 100%. Bastard.

And here’s how the last hand shook out:

Great Game, Kyy.

You have to go on AIM so xray can see you and invite you to chat and then announce who is making the game and what name to find it under. Try to get in about 10 minutes before game time to find out who’s making.

Congrats Yeti, sorry I couldn’t stick around to see your win.

Two straight early exits for me. Yuck. :frowning:

Last week, just bad luck. This week…I don’t think I could have played worse. I forgot that xrayvision learned how to play this season. He clearly had better cards and I just kept betting into him.
