Resurrection of Online Texas hold 'em tournaments for Dopers only (revised thread)

cracks knuckles

I’ll be there the whole game next week.

Then you’ll see some poker!

Just keep an eye on Nesta, he’s known for popping bubbles at the end of the quarter

I need you guys to vote on an issue. I’ve been thinking about the rank structure I’ve been using since I saw this web page. They also have quarterly rankings but they tabulate the rank much different than I’ve been doing it. Doing it my way, coming in a game ninth over someone who comes in tenth, puts your rank above that person equally as much as if you came in first and him second. The “Logarithm Rankings” system way of doing it puts much more importance on finishing lower down the line.

For instance, right now Duke of Rat has a better score than me (5.36 to 5.72) but with the “Logarithm Rankings” system way of ranking, I would have a better score than him ( 57.12% to 54.77% ) due mostly to the fact that I placed 1st in this season’s first game.

I posted the question here for opinions. I need you guys to vote on either keeping things the same or doing it the way the NJPL does. If you have any questions, you can ask here, but please keep opinions to yourself until everyone has voted. Place your vote by e-mailing me your decision before our next game. If you guys vote for change, I’ll re-tabulate all the rankings since the beginning. I want to keep the voting to our weekly regulars, which are the seven with official rankings this season.

Just a bump to make sure everybody has a chance to see it and vote before Thursday.

Right. And my vote was phrased something like “whichever system puts Duke of Rat lower on the list.” Or something like that.

I voted the same way, most likely. 'Cause using that method might make me the winner of the first quarter  Besides, still a lot of games this quarter. Still plenty of time for me to impose my awesome poker will upon you mortals. Or suck, whichever.

Well, I’ll go either way on this…I do realize that I will probably have a better ranking since my win was against 9 other opponents, but I will cast the lemming vote because this is just for bragging rights, not for $1.5M in cash.

I received enough votes for a majority ruling. The majority decided on changing to the “Logarithm Rankings” system. As I mentioned I would, I have re-tabulated all the rankings since the first quarter. Because of this, we have a new first quarter champion. My apologies to nesta.

Congrats to Duke of Rat!

Slipin’ and slidin’ on the logarithmic log ride! Still a pretty tight group in the middle of the pack, time to suck it up, or suck out

I see logarithmic tables.

Are they Real Money?? Or Play Money??

Wasn’t it his first three games with the group? Truly amazing. And I’m coming for your record, Duke. I’ve convinced myself that I can see the other players’ hole cards if I stare at the monitor hard enough.

So how many more games in the quarter?

Yeah, it took the other guys 3 weeks to figure out I didn’t know crap and beat the stuffing out of me ever since!

I count 8 more games this Q.

Thursday bump. Who’s in?

It’s Thursday. We all know what that means!

Simu-Bump

It means that Duke loses all his faux Cecil Bux tonight at the poker table!

Dream on, me peg-legged Pitt poker pal!

I see Burning Your Logrithmic Tables. (or Dogrithmic…your choice)

DAMMIT.

Logarithmic! Dogarithmic!

I will turn in my Applied Mathematics degree back to Cal Poly.

I suck.

Out.
