No need to be so grim.
I’ll try to be there, but I might not make it cuz I’ve been sick as a dog the last 3 days.
Tonight was hightechburrito’s first game with us and he took me out heads-up. Congrats to hightechburrito!

I want to make a few changes. From now on, if you want to play, send me a confirmation e-mail anytime on Thursday before 9:40pm est. I’ll start up the chatroom at 9:40 as usual, and as soon as everyone who emailed me is in the room, we can start. This way I can have the seating arrangements made already and if everyone who e-mailed me shows up early, we can start before 10pm. I’ll have the poker room made already before I open the chatroom, so every week it will be in my name. DON’T show up in the pokerroom unless I have assigned you a seat. If I get more than 9 confirmation e-mails, only the first nine I receive will play that night. If you don’t get an e-mail back from me, that means your seat has been reserved.
I have been randomly assigning seats, except I have been trying to equally seat everyone in the old lady and black guy seat. From now on, it will be totally random, so you might get one of those seats weeks in a row.
I couldn’t beleive the hands I was getting tonight. I think I got something like 4 full houses.
The second game was even weirder though, I flopped quad tens one hand, but there was no action, what a waste.
All in all, lots of fun, I’m not sure about next week, as that is right during finals, but I should be back after that. Or maybe I’ll retire undefeated.
PS Could someone fill me in on the way we start the games? I almost screwed the first one up by sitting in too early.
What do you mean, no action? You got rid of me with those quads.
The Old Lady and the Black Guy both sit in, everybody else sits out for now. They (OL & BG) will get a random card each (I think only they can see the random card), then a hand. During the hand, everybody else clicks “Sit In Now” or whatever, but they need to Sit In during this first hand. Usually OL & BG will play slow to give everybody ample time to get in, and it might just be me, but I think it’s poor form to play aggressively during this first hand. Either OL or BG will win, so the loser will start out at a little less than $1K and the winner a little more than $1K, so just checking back and forth and not betting the pot up assures that there isn’t a lot of money changing hands before the rest of the players get in the game.
The reason for all of this is…PokerRoom starts the hand as soon as it sees 2 or more players, and it’s impossible to get the whole table to join simultaneously. By starting the table with just 2, everybody else is poised to be dealt in as soon as the first hand is finished.
I should check this thread more often. I wasn’t aware until just now that I’ve been dethroned as first quarter winner. Being the gracious sort, here on the SDMB I’ll cede the first quarter to Duke of Rat, but I’m still going to tell everyone IRL that I beat you all. The logarithm ranking system does seem better than the old one.
My strange work schedule has caused me to miss the majority of the games this season. Is the threshold for getting officially ranked still three games? I’m curious how I’ll stack up if my current trend of always finishing third holds up.
I don’t think I ever had a chance of finishing first last night, with hightechburrito’s monster lead from the get-go. If I hadn’t been rivered those two or three times I might have beat out x-ray vision, though.
If the blinds are going to start at 50/50, I think we need to find a solution to having everyone post on the first hand. Having one player improve their stack by a guaranteed 50% on the first hand throws off the balance.

Congrats to Hitek, the prodigal son of Duke, with a “new and improved” bright and shiney target on his back!
I too agree with nesta about the blinds being a little too big on the onset. I was pretty much in nursing mode after my third hand…
What if we start with $25 blinds and once the table thins down to half, we start another table at $50, and when it gets down to head to head, make available the option to go to $100 blinds if both players left agree.
Last night, with 10 players, 3 of them dropped in less than 15 minutes if I recall, and 2 or 3 others were seriously wounded. Some from bad beats, and some from crap hands dealt 98% of the time (that’s me). It was sort of a small feat just to get 5th place with the crap I was dealt. I’m not trying to be grim or rude, but that game was just a tad bit…FAST. Last night, if we had $25 blinds first until there was 5 players left, then it would have definitely have added about another half hour to the game and probably more enjoyable to the bottom half of the leaderboard last night. Jump to $50 blinds when 5 people are left, and then go to $100 when there is head to head. That should tweak it just right, IMHO.
Yeticus and nesta are exactly right. I think it was just a goof on xray’s part though. I’m sure we’ll be back to 25’s in the future.
Who won the second game? I bailed when it was Yeti and hitek heads up.
That’s a good point. Even if we play 25/25 it does pose a problem. With all the problems we encounter trying to turn a ring game in to a SNG, what do you guys think of going to Pokertropolis? The minimum deposit is $20. Each game should only cost you about $1 (I just e-mailed them, so I’ll get the exact details). I believe 1st, 2nd and 3rd place get paid. Even if you never place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, your $20 should get you about 5 months of play. We will have blinds increase automatically and have everything be the way its supposed to. No one feeling guilty for not betting enough and have the game drag, etc. If a significant majority of the regulars want to try it, I say we go for it. If you don’t want to use Neteller to deposit money for whatever reason, I’ll deposit $20 in your Pokertropolis acct. for you and you can just mail me a 20. Who’s up for it?
I’ll go with any flow, X-Ray… $20 is fine by me.
I don’t remember everybody having to post all the time, seems like sometimes you do, sometimes you don’t. Or maybe I’m thinking of just joining and having to wait on the BB to come around, not sure. But yeah, winning that first hand with $500 of just blinds plus bets was a real boost (well, not to me…).
Do you take PayPal??
I have a PayPal acct.
I’d be up for Pokertropolis. Having it be a true cash game, even if a very small amount, will keep new people from giving it a shot, though. One simple solution if they allow account-to-account transfers might be to set up a pool for new players. I would happily donate $5 or so to get new people in. The risk is donating to a would-be player, and then having them give up and abandon their account. If we can transfer in $1 increments, this wouldn’t be a problem.
I just received a reply from Pokertropolis. We can set up private tables for 10¢ plus an additional 50¢ going to the house for a total of 60¢. That means even if you never win, your $20 will be good for about seven months of playing with us.
Cool, I’m in. As soon as you get the details worked out, let me know and I’ll send you $20 + a handling fee. It’ll take more than $20 to get rid of me!
I’ll probably say yes to that, but lemme check out the details a bit more first (if I high-tail it after three months of nothing but losing, can I get the remaining $10 back, or is there a minimum amount for them to cash the check? I know there’s other questions, but that one sticks out).
I’m try to figure my stance out by Tuesday or so. I’ve already downloaded the pokertropolis software from the last time we had this discussion.
You’re not going to quit playing if you go on three month losing streak, are you? Just consider it a hobby that costs you 60¢ a week.
Yeah, but no one else was betting. I was hoping with the QQ on the board, someone made a full house, and would bet big.
OK, I DL’d PokerTropolis, I am DukeOfRat there.
I’ve downloaded P’Tropolis. If we go to this, I’ll need somebody to spot me the funds. I can send you a check.
