On the temp board we were talking about having a dignified, sedate Michigan Dopefest in beautiful Ann Arbor. Possible dates included March 23, March 29 or March 30. I think we had settled on the 23rd, but re-reading the the other thread, that decision seems less than conclusive.
So I’m breaking out the defibulator and giving this Dopefest one more shock to the chest. Are we still on? What’s the deal? Where are we going? Is man alone in an uncaring universe? Who am I? What language am I speaking? Is this thing on?
So, do we have to have the disclaimer in here, or is it self-evident that our families will sue the Reader anyway when Cranky wigs out and kills us all?
Either that, or I’ll break loose from my tether and trample a handler or two.
Of course, now that you have mentioned the dreaded “S” word (snow, not Spring), we will all end up driving to her place in a blizzard. Bring it on though. It wouldn’t be the first time I drove in a snowstorm just to hang out with a bunch of Dopers.
I’ve been on the fence about it, in no small part because I wondered if people wouldn’t have enough notice if we did it next weekend. Also, it means I have to cancel a shopping trip but bunnygirl and persephone. However, we CAN reschedule it, and I think the weekend of the 23rd was a pretty good weekend for most folks.
So let’s do it. Saturday night I’d like to make a potluck, although we can plan on me providing most of the hot dishes since the rest of you are driving from a distance. Except Res and Hello Again (whom I will need to inform of this–I’m not sure she’s back on the boards yet).
And yes, this is not an “official” Chicago Reader event; read the disclaimer above. Other disclaimers include: I have a toddler. My house is small. I’m a lousy housekeeper. I have a dog and cat. It’s just possible that this Ohio Doper will be passing through Ann Arbor then; I’ve always wanted to get my commercial driving license, and my dad has been taking me on his E Chicago-Detroit run when I can break away. How sure is this gig?
It’s a sure gig. I’m gonna be home that night with the porch light on. That’s all we really need.

Hm. I happen to have tickets to Detroit that weekend. To see my ex. Considering that I just referred to him as an “effing, expects me to be at his beck and call, self-centered bastard who couldn’t even effing GET ME OFF,” I’m thinking that I might not have plans with him. Like, um, ever.
I know this is really huge and if it can’t be done, then that’s fine, but if someone could pick me up from Detroit Metro airport (DTW) Friday afternoon and drop me off Sunday night (times changeable if need be) and if that somebody or another somebody could let me stay at their place those two nights, I could go.
So, yeah, not that likely…but if someone could, I could go, and I’d really, really love to do so…but I don’t wanna put anyone way the heck out…please?
is anyone going from the Lansing area?? I mean, really, it’s not football season, there’s no conflicting basketball game, and UOf M’s (if it has one)'s hockey team sucks, so it’s perfectly safe to travel to A squared this time of year…
