Just finished it earlier today…all I can say is WOW this is one of the -best- Star Trek novels I’ve ever read! I don’t really want to reveal any spoilers, so don’t look for any here. S. D. Perry has done a fantastic job in this book, though (IMHO); she has captured the characters and flavor of DS9 so well that I could literally “hear and see” them as I was reading the book. Also she interwove so many threads and varying storylines, from both the show and other books, including her two earlier works, “Avatar” and “Rising Son,” tying up many loose and dangling ones. It was a fully satisfying read; in fact, I had been reading it in bursts, but this afternoon I took it with me when I went outside for my break around 2 pm… and I just couldn’t put it down until I finished it! Hehe, I don’t know what my boss was thinking, but I was gone until about 2:45 pm.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed Deep Space Nine, and especially to anyone who has followed the “re-launch” of DS9 in novel format–you will enjoy it, I promise. Here’s hoping that the bar which S. D. Perry has raised will continue to be met and met with a challenge.
