The no real life meetings one opened with the Chicago Reader, so pretty dated.

The old MPSIMS rules have been superseded by the new rules in the * Terms of Service. So leaving it pinned was an oversite.

@Miller, There are 5 pinned threads in The BBQ Pit, can any of them be unpinned? I think 3 can be.

In case you haven’t seen it, we’ve removed the restricted word list from the Pit. You are now officially free drop f-bombs at any target, in whatever configuration you desire. Keep in mind, this only applies to the “bad word” list. Rules against hate speech remain in full effect, as do all other Pit rules. Now go forth and be filthy.

How reprehensible do YOU want to be in the Pit?

As some of you are no doubt aware, we had a bit of drama related to the Pit recently, which has led to me reconsidering my approach to how I moderate the Pit. Previously, I’d held to a position where pretty much any sort of insult was allowed, short of racial slurs. I used this standard because I felt it was about as objective as possible, but it’s led to a number of situations in the last couple years where I was defending behavior that made me nauseous, and I don’t want to do that anymore. …

The BBQ Pit is the forum for rants about the outside world or quarrels between posters - often the first turns into the second. Although the standards of discourse are looser than in the other forums, the Pit is NOT a free-for-all - you don’t have to be nice, but you do have to be reasonably civil.
