I find this Pit thread insulting and dumb. It’s sheer pointlessness has lowered the value of pitting someone to nothing. Congradulations, tdn, you have singlehandedly ruined the Pit for the entire board. No longer will people remotely fear being pitted, since now you can be pitted for anything and by people with no clue how to do anything, just on a whim so they can use phases they think are highbrow insults. For shame to tdn and all unneccessary Pitters. A new Forum called Somewhat Warm Panel by the Heating Duct should be created just to house these threads of the damned.

I don’t think you’re going to get off the hook that easily. There’s a punishment for posting a stupid flame, and that’s having everyone point at it and laugh. Hopefully, this thread will run to several pages, and teach others the folly of pitting someone over trivial bullshit like this.

Alright, here is your chance to remove a little of my ignorance. What, exactly, did you find lame? Was it the content? The tone? The beat?

Well, you weren’t asking me, but as an insufferable know-it-all, I’ll answer you anyway.
I’ll start with the minor stuff, like you misspelling “haberdasher.” I’m not one to harp on minor spelling or grammar, but it’s your one good insult in the entire OP. You should have paid more attention. And the fact that it is your only good insult further harms the overall flame. Even a mediocre rant can be saved by some powerful and creative invective.
More important, of course, is that a flame have a legitimate target. This isn’t even close. First of all, you’re taking the quote out of context, which was RexDart defending his position from people who were arguing Biblical creationism and the people who were arguing that people are bad because they’re mean to trees, or some damn thing. In other words, Christians and radical leftists. From the context of the thread, its clear that he’s not talking about all Christians or all liberals, merely a few people belonging to those groups using their own brand of specious reasoning in the debate.
Even reading the quote completely out of context, without recourse to the linked thread, you still don’t have a valid complaint because the post you quoted contains the clear qualifier “radical.” Not all leftists, just the extreme fringe. Of course, if you define yourself as a radical leftist, feel free to pit away, but don’t pretend you’re doing it as a favor to all leftists everywhere, because you aren’t. I’m a registered Democrat, but I still have more in common with moderate Republicans than I do with the fringe of my own party. Radicals of any stripe are a pain in the ass, and I’m not interested in defending them.
Lastly, if you’re going to pit four people at once, you should clearly delineate what offences each one of them is supposedly guilty of, instead of simply rattling off a string of names and then focusing on one person for the remainder of the post. It’s difficult to properly defend yourself when your accuser won’t tell you what you’re supposed to have done wrong.
