My band are going to cover this song as it has such a great groove; but as a song it doesn’t really go anywhere. So as we often do in such cases we thought we’d segue into another belter that also goes ‘dun, dun, dun-dun, duh-duh’.
Except I’ve drawn a blank.
So dopers - without wanting open a debate about whether it goes ‘bum, bum bu-bum bu-bum’ or whatever, any suggestions?
The beat has both a Latin feel and a Bo Diddley beat feel. You could go with anything from a Shakira-type Latin-pop number (sorry don’t know the names) or Buddy Holly’s Not Fade Away (Rolling Stone’s version) or Tom Petty’s American Girl.
The basic Latin lick I hear played by a nylon-string guitar is a standard I IV V lick so you could go anywhere you want with that…
In terms of entertainment - well, if you are looking to get folks dancing and keep it going from there - I’d find another dance tune with a different, cool rhythm and make a transition - just manage the change - make it a break and then re-launch if you need to, to keep it tight. Could be anything from something new toYou Spin Me Right Round by Dead or Alive- transitioning to that would be cool, IMHO…
Given that Scarlet Begonias and NFA have been mentioned, I’d like to throw in a nod to Eyes of the World. Without lightening up on complexity, it’s a good laconic fit–add an edge and pick it up a few notches and you’ve got a sick She Want’s to Move>Eyes>Scarlet Begonias>NFA>SWTM jam.
