Rick and Morty -- the new animated show from Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland

Also the Bootlegger Morties apparently made their Rick lick their balls.

Well, that episode was dark, and we only saw a fraction of the memories Rick wiped from Morty. The fact that Summer is so blasé about yet another “Scenario 4” happening really makes you wonder how many times they’ve gone through this.

“And we’ll be doing this instead of interdimensional cable.”

LOL.

I had always had my suspicions about the squirrels.

I don’t think they had ever actually had a Scenario 4 yet, since Summer had to open the instructions first.

And was Jerry’s memory on a video tape of some sort? That didn’t seem to make sense, given that it happened after the divorce (otherwise, what is Jerry doing in his apartment / hotel room / wherever he’s staying now?).

I loved those squirrels, and had a little Twelve Monkeys moment, of “Maybe the mad are right!”

The squirrel scene also reinforced the notion that their reality isn’t infinite.

I thought it was more about leaning on the fourth wall, saying that they could recycle that plot point only so many times.

Well, let’s not take anything for granite.

Loved the E.T. spoof with a much different ending.

“Dibs on his stuff!”

Yeah, it’s only implied, of course, but when I saw them switch realities back in episode six (the Cronenberg episode), I laughed out loud at the deus ex machina and the lampshading of it.“We get three or four more of these, tops.” That was back when we were only learning how screwed up this show could be.

Season 3 is darker, but I’m liking it more than season 2, so far.

Of course, since they swapped realities a second time, that means there’s probably another pair of dead Rick and Morty buried in the backyard with yet another portal gun. I wonder if that’ll ever come into play?

Mr. Poopybutthole proposed to Morty? Dreams really do come true.

Movie references I caught:

Contact - building an advanced spacecraft with radioed instructions
The Birds - threatening small animals gather on nearby rooftops and wires
E.T. - kids try to rescue an alien on their bikes
The Empire Strikes Back - cutting open an alien beast to survive extreme cold

Any others?

Or those Rick & Mortys are trapped at the Citadel. Lots of worlds out there without theirs.

Someone put together what I think is a particularly clever and catchy music video: I’m Mr. Meeseeks (Rick and Morty remix song).

Thanks. Surprisingly upbeat, given the subject matter!

I thought that was The Revenant, but I never saw the one you mentioned.

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (in which Han Solo slices open a dead tauntaun so that Luke can survive a bitter-cold Hoth night) predates The Revenant film by decades.

Dan Harmon lashes out at sexist fans trolling the show’s female writing staff.

Good on him for calling out these twerps.
