Rick and Morty -- the new animated show from Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland

Wow. That’s insane (the trolling, not Harmon’s response).

Another comment of Harmon’s (from your link):

He’s nailed it, no doubt—these voids wouldn’t do the threatening-and-harassing on their own, probably—they do it to impress their loathsome and pathetic peers.

From the comments, an interesting point:

Beth is gone isn’t she? That was a clone at the end of the episode, it has to be.

Lady or the Tiger?

Didn’t Rick say she could come back at any time?

For all we know, that was the clone at the end of the episode, but “original formula Beth” will be back at the start of next week’s episode without any reference to the clone. On the other hand, having two Beths could be important in any upcoming showdown between Rick and Evil Morty.

Honestly, I think that’s the original beth. Which makes the ending quite a bit sadder, all things considered.

I think it could be either, really. I don’t favor one theory or the other. Far more disturbing: incest/cannibalism preschool children’s plays.

There’s definitely something ironic about Tommy’s dad being wrongly accused of eating him while, in Froopyworld, Tommy actually was eating his children.

I would not be shocked if they never mention the Beth thing again and just let people guess forever. Or maybe they will resolve it in a throw away joke two seasons from now like someone reaching into a closet to get something and in the background you see an inert Beth labeled “Beth Clone”.

I dunno if it’s sadder. Rick was right - it didn’t matter which choice Beth made, because it was the first time in her life that she was choosing as herself rather than as what she thought she should be.

Until the show says otherwise, I choose to believe that Beth is constantly popping out on adventures, but always comes home. Just like her dad.

Didn’t Rick tell Beth at the beginning of the episode that she’s not his Beth, which she took as a reference to the Infinite Beths out there?

What if the Beth at the beginning of the episode were a clone?

He meant that his original Beth was in a different universe and died.

No, she’s still alive in the Cronenberg universe. Assuming of course, that that’s Rick’s original universe.

It’s not. ISTR Rick mentions pretty early on that he’s hopped universes a number of times before settling in with “our” Morty.

Oh, and it appears Rick has definitely lost his implants - he had to use that robot arm implant when the Tommy/bird creatures cut his off.

Are you sure? I know there’s been a ton of speculation about that, (including last page of this thread), but I didn’t think it had ever been explicitly stated that Rick isn’t actually from C-137.

This Beth could be an android, shapeshifting alien, hologram, etc. In an infinite universe, anything is possible. She’s whatever the storyline demands she be.

Pretty sure. From way earlier in this thread:

Actually that’s not what he says at all, he says they can only do it three or four more times but he never mentions having done it before.

It’s admittedly been a while since I saw the first season, but I remember it the way grude described upthread.

I just watched it, all he says is “It’s not like we can do this every week, we get three or four of this… tops”. There is no mention of having done it before.

I mean, I think it’s pretty strongly implicit that Rick is speaking from experience there. shrug

Probably doesn’t really matter - this is the kind of show where the only reality is what’s important for the episode at hand.
