I barely follow the overall storyline that goes between seasons.
Are the Rick and Morty we see weekly the same ones from the pilot episode in Season 1? Or did they die a long time ago and are buried somewhere?

I’m not 100% confident, but yes. Everyone else has been replaced though.
It’s the same Rick consciousness, but his original body was killed by seal team ricks.
And he lost his Improv lessons
Same Rick and Morty, though Rick swapped bodies. Rick and Morty aren’t originally from the same dimension, though - Morty’s real grandpa is “Rick Prime”, the Rick who killed Rick’s Beth when she was a little girl. The rest of the family is from the Earth R&M moved to after Earth Prime got Cronenberged, except for Jerry, because that Earth’s Jerry got swapped with a different one at the Jerrycare.
And of course, they now live on a third Earth since Season 2 Jerry got returned and unleashed Mr. Frundles, who assimilated that entire planet in seconds.
“Jerryboree”
Justin Roiland has been charged with domestic abuse.
I do not want to jump to conclusions but-- what is going ON with you guys?
OK, I’ve jumped to conclusions. And generalized. Sorry. But as a minority woman, I’m feeling besieged by life.
I always thought there was a good chance it was the other way around, we’re following the original jerry and a different rick and morty now.
Show’s probably over now. What a creepy guy JR is.
Yeah, gotta agree. Assuming even some of the damning evidence of his personality flaws that have come to surface are accurate, he seems like a predatory loser. Ah, well - that’s the way the creepy guy’s franchise crumbles. I have no problem sunsetting Rick and Morty. It was a great show, but it has enough mileage in the tank that I’m more than okay with it ending.
Hopefully they can recast Roiland and keep the show going so that everyone else who works on it won’t be out a job because of their boss’ assholishness. What’s Billy West up to these days?
I saw @Smapti’s post just above. Is there anything else? (this thread is 1100+ posts long so not going through it all).
True? Eh, we’ll see. But it is a seriously creepy warning shot across the bow of Roiland’s reputation.
Oops.
This is the best possible outcome. R&M is Adult Swim’s single most popular show and they still have 40 episodes on order, and there are probably plenty of voice actors out there who can do a good enough Rick/Morty that you’d hardly notice.
I want to chime in before i read a million hot takes on the internet (not here, you guys are mostly level-headed) Roiland did a FANTASTIC job. And I have to believe he was more then “Just the voice of the main characters.” A FANTASTIC job.
I wanted to say that before I read a hundred “The show sucks anyway.” “Anyone can do a voice”…etc…
Rick and Morty IMHO is the best Sci-Fi show ever made. And losing Roiland would be like if South Park lost Trey Parker.
Roiland hasn’t written for the show since 2017 and hasn’t been involved in showrunning or creative since then either - he may have helped create the show and influence its early seasons, but all he’s been since then is a voice actor, much like how Seth McFarlane hasn’t written for Family Guy in almost 20 years now. Whether he gets found guilty or not, he’s damaged goods at this part and he’d only be an albatross around the show’s neck if he stayed around.
As for South Park, the show would probably be better if Parker and Stone hadn’t kept ramming their “casual racism is funny and caring about stuff is dumb” ethos into every other episode over the last several decades, because you can probably draw a straight line from Eric Cartman’s anti-Semitism to the election of Donald Trump.
Man we went straight to politics.
As for Roilands duties…I feel like you’re a little inaccurate. From what I can gather he did more then just show up to read lines.
The Hollywood Reporter has an expose out today about the rise and fall of Roiland’s career. Apparently he and Harmon haven’t been on speaking terms for years, was known for his inappropriate and sexist behavior especially towards female writers, and for the last few seasons he never showed up at the offices unless he was showing off to friends (including Kanye West and Riley Reid) and worked from home submitting his voice recordings without direction.
