I don’t carry cash. I think there’s about $25 in the petty cash box at the office right now, but I wouldn’t have that on me if I was walking around town.
Of course, I could get quite a bit out of an ATM at any given moment.
My wife pulls out about $300 in cash each month; how much she has with her is usually closer to $50, but any number between 2 and 300 is fairly likely at any given moment.
I think I have less than $5 in my purse. We hardly have any change around the house either - we took it all to the credit union a couple of weeks ago. Even then, it was under $50.
$70, plus maybe $20 in change between the vehicles and my bedroom dresser.
And since I’m in a state with a ten-cent refund on bottles and cans, perhaps about $2.00 worth of returnables.
I started the weekend with around $37 - $38 dollars. It is now Sunday, and all I have is the change on the bottom of my hand bag (purse, whatever you call it). My two daughters managed to wrangle all my money from me in less than 48 hours. :o
I have C$175 in bills (8 twenties and 3 fives), $10.60 in change, mostly quarters. This includes 20 quarters that I had set aside last Sunday afternoon to pay for parking near a concert. It turned out that the parking lot I use for these Sunday concerts is undergoing renovation and I was able to find on-street, unmetered street parking (illegal during weekdays).
I don’t understand this using no cash even for small purchases. I don’t use credit until about $20 (except for parking since the machines tend to be very particular about bills so cards are much easier).
My wife also has over $100. Plus a couple of small emergency reservoirs. Oh and I just recalled that I have about US$100 and a couple hundred Bajan (= US$100). I could use the US money fine here, but not the Bajan.
I rarely carry cash, that’s what plastic is for. Last week, I wanted to get my car washed and didn’t do it because I didn’t have 2 cash dollars to tip the people who prewash my car.
I do stash emergency cash in all of my vehicles and at work, but that’s not spending money. I did get my car washed the next day.
I actually found $200.00 in the cuff of my jeans today. I forgot I had stashed it there for my trip to Disneyland week after next. So my answer has to be revised.
Not too much, as I generally only carry around at most 20 dollars in cash for a meal or two. We have some change in a jar like most people, but it is probably only about ten dollars.
Good god people are carrying around a shitton of cash!
Tonight between my husband and me we had $47 specifically because we were going out to eat. Now he has $4.
Normally I have between nothing and $5 in my purse in cash, usually nothing.
I have maybe three dollars in change in my car, and we’ve got a ‘convention fund’ of our spare cash that we keep at home, and a change jar to fund our vacation every year. No idea how much is in either - we don’t track it, it’s just to keep the loose bits that accumulate when we pay in cash and get change back.
I rarely have need to use cash, and my credit union rewards me for using my debit card, so that’s usually what I do.
Cuts way down on minor little impulse purchases when you have to drag a card out - if it’s less than $2, it’s usually not worth the bother, so it saves me the money.
Aren’t there developed economies that even now run mostly on a cash basis?
Actually, I fond that it’s the other away for me. If I just stick my debit card in and push a few buttons to transfer value, it just doesn’t have the same psychological impact as taking something physical out of my wallet that will soon be handed permanently to the other person.
