Right now how much cash money do you have available?

If you’re talking about readily available, within 10 steps of where I’m sitting, probably about $2.

If I can go to the bank, more of course.

About $150 in my wallet. Another $100 in an envelope in my dresser - the emergency backup.

Then I have 3 change jars, one at home, one at work and one in my car. Each of those could have $10-20 bucks in various change.

In my wallet right now:

17 US dollars
50 Euro
5000 Icelandic Krona

I have about $140 in my wallet. I returned something on Saturday and they gave me cash instead of putting it back in my bank account via my debit card. There is about $75 in pennies in a box in the hall. I am going to do a penny floor and am in the midst of sorting them out.

There is probably another $20-25 in assorted currencies floating around in drawers and jars.

I’ve been into Town today and bought myself a top, some books, a lens and a black rapid strap for my camera because I finally got fed up with the one which Canon provides.

My on-hand cash has gone from +$200 to -$900

That must have been one expensive black rapid strap!

No, the lens was the most expensive item and even it wasn’t as expensive as some of my other lenses.

I don’t know exactly. About $10 in my wallet, $20 in Swiss Franks on the dresser, and a few hundred dollars from cycling racing wins in a jar in the kitchen.

I try not to have any cash at all, but I have one student who gives me €20 cash for her lesson so then I have to try to spend that every week. A few pounds in another handbag, no more than 5 I think.

I do have some other currencies in my desk drawer. Some Reais, some Tunisian Dinar (shh don’t tell 'em, it’s not allowed) and some Romanian Lei and a few others that don’t amount to much. Probably all between 100-150 in Euros. Funny, actually, that I have more cash there than in my purse.

Cash is preferred and ATM’s and/or cash back at the grocery store are not possible here so my tally is

USD ~ 1000
KWZ ~ 50,000
Euro ~ 300
ZAR ~ 1000

Ah DrumBum, it’s as good a place as any to sneak this question in: what do you recommend for me wrt money and cash? Any tips?

If foreign affairs get their act together I’ll get the rights stamps today or tomorrow and finally get the visa so I can be there in May! (My fingers are so crossed it’s hard to type.)

On me now I have CI$1457.37 (US$ 1777.28).

Back at the house I have assorted currencies from my travels, including some that have since been replaced by the Euro. At the least it is taxi fare from the airport to a hotel in maybe 6 or 7 currencies. I’d guess around US$400 total.

I only carry cash when I go to a ball game. I grab $5 from my wife for parking on my way out the door. I have no idea how much she has, but she always has $5 to give me for parking.

Neato. You should tell us sometime how it turned out!

I have twenty-three cents on me at the moment. The only reason I’m even carrying that much cash is because one of the kids left a dime in the laundry. My husband has cash which I could have for the asking, but I generally do fine without.

I have about three dollars in quarters… if I have my change purse on me.

Thread title is funny when followed by the words don’t ask.

Uh-oh, what’d you do?

On me, a little under $200

ATM/cashcard accessible, $500 per day.

In the bank enough to stave off immediate panic (but then have to start contingency measures) in most foreseeable cases.

73.00 in wallet 400-600 in 1 and 5 dollar bills
50-60 in 1 dollar coins and since I am in the office 8,000 sitting in the safe.

Just before I got a job last year, I had 0 income, $15000 in debt not including my mortgage (and I was being foreclosed on) and $7. That was it – nothing put away in savings or checking or bonds or anything else. If I wanted more cash I would have to sell something.

ZAR156.50, which is about US$15 at the current exchange rate. I use my credit card almost everywhere, except the cafeteria at my office, which is cash-only.

I also have $44.55 left over from my last visit to the US.
