I think a song that starts off strong would make a good ring tone.
I thought about Helter Skelter, but for some reason it doesn’t work well.
Any other suggestions?

“Sweet Child of Mine” by GnR and “Baba O’Riley” by The Who both make excellent ring tones.
I recommend going without. Whenever I hear anyone with a ring tone I can’t help but to think less of them. Just let your phone ring with its regular tone. Don’t try to be trendy.
My last phone had a ringtone that sounded exactly like an old-style phone. Ring…Ring. I loved it.
My new phone doesn’t have as good a sound. I’m thinking of downloading “London’s Calling.”
Since almost everyone has cell phones, I think it makes sense to have a unique ringtone. I use “The Liberty Bell”.
Obviously it should be The Final Countdown.
A quick jingle is always best, I find… Me, I can’t stand long, “real tones” (as in, actual music). Try and pick something that will make you smile when you hear it, that maybe not everyone would recognise. A friend of mine has a little 24 jingle, that seemingly is what’s on Jack Bauers phone… I dont know the show, so I cant say.
So my phone jingle right now is the Hurwitz Company jingle, from the end of Arrested Developement. It’s pretty obscure, but did lead to one fun conversation when it went off on a train when I was sitting beside a fellow fan of the Bluth’s. Other tones I have had include Sit-BooBoo-Sit… Good Dog, and the sound effect of Mario entering a pipe.
No More Mr. Nice Guy is what’s up front in my current rotation.
Except my phone came with only like 4 pre-loaded tones, all of which sound like every other phone out there.
And believe me, no one would consider my ringtone “trendy.” It’s part of the opening number to Stephen Sondheim’s musical Company.
I have frogs singing/croaking. I switch between that and crickets chirping. It’s much less annoying, and occasionally people start looking around to figure out where the frogs are.
Much less intrusive than lynryd skynyrd, et al.
I’ve had the Futurama theme for a little over 5 years now. It’s unique because, as far as I know, it’s never actually been offered as a ringtone. I found a midi of it and uploaded it to my phone over the internet (this was complicated 5 years ago; I’m guessing someone who has kept up with cell phone technology will come laugh at me about how easy it would be to do now.)
That being said, my phone is virtually always on vibrate. The only time I hear it ring is if it’s on the charger - it rings on the charger even if it’s set to vibrate.
I have different ringtones for all the people who frequently call me. That way, I know who’s calling without looking at the phone.
“Always Look on the Bright Side of Life” from Monty Python’s Life of Brian
“Mahna Mahna” from Sesame Street
The “thinking music” from Jeopardy! (default for people who don’t have a special ringtone)
The theme from Super Mario Bros.
“Crazy” by Gnarls Barkely
“Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” by the Beatles
I also have crickets, which I thought would be fun for text messages, but the cricket sounds over and over rather than just chirping once, so it’s pretty annoying. The default “Low beep once” only sounds once, which is what I want.
Oh, for when I get texts I have Captain Kirk (William Shatner) saying, “Standby to receive our transmission.”
I have three that I use pretty often. The Superman theme song(I haven’t heard it on another phone yet), I’m Shipping Up to Boston by Dropkick Murphys(only heard that one once), and, my personal favorite, Adam West saying, “Let’s go Robin, the longer we tarry, the more dire the peril.” I love that one and haven’t heard it anywhere else.
I use the music from the original Legend of Zelda. It gets knowing smiles all the time.
Ive got the muppet show playing when I receive a text message. When my mate mum calls jump around by house of pain plays. When my mate calls Cinderella Rockefella calls (chosen because we always think she’s cheap - a joke from still game). I also have the inspector gadget theme. Im such a geek!
Oh and Im totally loving the final countdown suggestion I have that and Alice coopers poison as my alarm tones.
Heh. The problem with this is when you yourself forget what your ring tone is.
A few months ago, Mr. Athena and I were downtown, and had stopped to look at something in a window. All of a sudden, I heard ducks. So did Mr. Athena. Very weird, as we were in the middle of town, and it wasn’t duck season. We scanned the sky, trying to find out where all these ducks were.
A few minutes later, I pulled out my cell phone because I’d been expecting a call from a friend. Sure enough, she had called. Funny… I hadn’t heard the phone ring.
It wasn’t until I called her back and halfway through the conversation realized I’d been fooling around with my ring tones a few days ago, and set hers to… yup, you guessed it, ducks. :smack:
Damn, me too! I also use the original “do do do DO” sound when you find an item/piece of Triforce for my incoming texts.
But I was thinking about changing my ring to the Macguyver theme.
I’ve currently got a stock theme, since I need some serious audio action to get me out of bed in the mornings and Bob Marley’s “Don’t worry, be happy” wasn’t supplying that.
If you want one that starts out strong, try Sing Sing Sing (with a Swing) by Benny Goodman.
