I’m pretty sure it wasn’t a “heart attack” as in the technical sense (blocked artery, “heart attack” is also commonly used to describe cardiac arrest due to other causes). At least, I hope it wasn’t and it would be highly unusual if it was unless he had a family history (then why didn’t we/he know about that?).
I’m rather late, but I just discovered this thread. Wow. My condolences to his family and friends and this is also a loss to the SDMB.
Sorry to hear this. RIP.
I don’t have his full name, but would like to see it. Would someone kindly PM me the link to the obituary?
Thanks.
The funeral is going to be streamed from Japan tomorrow at 10 am ET. I’ve asked for permission to post a link here.
His name needs to be added to the in memoriam sticky.
Me too, please.
Thank you.
I don’t think it’s a secret. Obit is here.
Got his girlfriend’s blessing. Link to funeral UStream channel. It’s tomorrow at 10 am ET (GMT -5).
Shrug, guess it’s a difference in translation then. You can have funerals corpore insepulto (with the body not buried) or corpore sepulto, so just go take it up with the people who wrote the Latin.
Thank you. Unfortunately, I’m going to be in class… is there a chance that will be cached somewhere?
I will ask.
With my apologies for the sidetrack, but gigi, I think you’re assuming that when I talk about, for example, “someone who was buried several countries away”, I’m talking about someone who already had a funeral and burial. I’m not. The body was left where he died; the first Mass held after his death, for him and following the funeral rite (not memorial rites), took place back home.
Read the obit. 28 is so young.
I know. I have a niece who is a week younger.
Thank you for that.
I note that there is a place to type in a condolence message; would anyone like to leave one in appreciation of the Dope as a whole? I can’t see that any have been left at all, yet, but don’t know if that’s just my browser being weird, or maybe it’s just not a thing anyone does…I dunno.
I think they are only visible to the family.
He looked good. I guess they’re going to bury him with his glasses on. That answers a question that I never even thought to ask.
His parents were in good spirits, considering. It was really good to see them. They’re going to try to move back up here by the end of the summer. I’m glad, that way I can maintain a connection to him.
His parents lost the link to this thread, but his friend is setting up a web site that will allow us to leave our memories of him. I’ll let you know when it’s up and running.
Fucking sad, man. That’s all I can say.
RIP Autolycus.
The stream is working, folks, if you wish to watch.
