RIP Bob Dorough (Schoolhouse Rock)

Bob Dorough, Jazz Musician Best Known For ‘Schoolhouse Rock!,’ Dead At 94

Thanks for the memories. And the education.

Oh my gosh yes!! Thank you so much for the amazing music.

Dorough’s work transcends generations. My kids (15 and 11 now) loved the Schoolhouse Rock collection as much as my wife and I did. RIP.

Schoolhouse Rock was such a big part of my childhood. I used to have the VHS tapes, now I have some CDs of the music. He did a lot of other great stuff, but Three is a Magic Number and Conjunction Junction will always be close to my heart.

I have the DVD.

When I heard this news I started humming “I’m An Amendment To Be” until I remembered that song’s actually a Simpsons parody. Whoops.

I had Multiplication Rock on vinyl.

Saw Dorough play at a bookstore/coffeehouse once. It was great. It was sort of half karaoke style; he invited people up to sing some of the songs. I wish I’d known in advance, I’d have been tempted to give “Rufus Xavier Sarsaparilla” a try.

A noun’s a special kind of word
It’s anything you’ve ever heard
I find that quite in-ter-es-ting
A noun’s a person, place or thing.

(Off the top of my head; Boo-yah!)

I always liked Conjunction Junction.

I was a big fan of Schoolhouse Rock, as was my sister. RIP.

Bummer. I’ve been a fan most of my life. He sang the very first SHR song, you know.

This was written (and sung) by Lynn Aherns, who’s still very much alive.

Jack Sheldon’s famous for singing “I’m Just a Bill” and “Conjunction Junction”, but “RXS” is his best vocal performance on SH–not just because of the remarkable verbal gymnastics, but because he gets a lot of great emotion in along the way. Really terrific, though not as iconic since it’s almost impossible to commit to memory the way so many of the other pleasurable SH earworms are.

I still love Schoolhouse Rock to this day. I have vcr tapes of them. Years ago my husband and I saw a live performance of it. I’m very sorry to hear this news.

Lolly, Lolly, Lolly, get your adverbs here…

Interjections! Show excitement and emotion…

…Janet, she’s a galaxy girl…

… gotta gotta get me some elbow room…

So many memories!

Some years ago he appeared as a guest on a Chicago radio show (Brandmeier) and played a few songs. Before long he was taking requests from tearful adults who had called in, all thanking him for the songs, memories and years. RIP.

And who didn’t rely on this to pass the test in high school?

Making the Preamble to the US Constitution into a catchy folk tune is nothing short of genius.

This was also Lynn Aherns, not him.

Three of these four were Lynn Aherns. Dorough did “Lolly Lolly”.
