It would need to be a major hospital with a neurosurgeon available. Certainly there are surgeries in certain situations which can fix the problems–it’s a question of how much initial damage, how much delay…
How tragic, how awful…I’m a bit surprised the tinfoil hat crowd isn’t spreading a lie about how the covid shot made him so ill that he fell down and cracked his head that way.
New York Times article:
Some neurosurgeons said that it would be unusual for a typical fall to cause Mr. Saget’s set of fractures — to the back, the right side and the front of his skull. Those doctors said that the injuries appeared more reminiscent of ones suffered by people who fall from a considerable height or get thrown from their seat in a car crash.
“This is significant trauma,” said Dr. Gavin Britz, the chair in neurosurgery at Houston Methodist. “This is something I find with someone with a baseball bat to the head, or who has fallen from 20 or 30 feet.”

You don’t live in Rhode Island, do you? Because this is literally what happened to my uncle, in Warwick.
No, Indiana. I guess it’s sadly more common than you might think. Sorry about your uncle.
This doesn’t make much sense. Where would Bob take a 20 ft fall? Then crawl back to his room, get in bed, and die? Cell phones will dial 911 if a confused person presses random numbers.
I hope he wasn’t attacked in his room.
The identical thing happened to my mother, except instead of dying he just kept on going. She did never see him again, alive or dead, so that part was the same.
Today anybody who noticed would most likely be focused on recording the aftermath on their phones.
This latest news really does raise more questions than it answers.
Apparently a ‘fall in the shower’ just couldn’t have produced the results seen. So…case closed??

Odd, isn’t it? Apparently no one saw or heard anything, if there were signs of a struggle in his hotel room, that hasn’t been reported, but the injuries do sound pretty significant.

I’m not sure if any of the medical people who’ve commented (in news stories or anywhere else) have mentioned a time-limit on being up-and-around after so traumatic an injury. In other words: could this have happened somewhere else, maybe in the hotel, and someone got him back to his room…?
It just seems that ‘case closed’ is inappropriate. But I guess a re-opening would happen only if there were enough pressure on the relevant Orange County officials.

Agree.

My grandpa fell on the ice, hit his head, and died. He was taking some rags to a neighbor for some reason. It was before I was born. I think he lasted only a day after the fall.
I saw a woman slip on ice in the parking lot at work. Her head hit the concrete and I heard it 40 feet away. She survived it though.
I don’t take comments about a case by experts not involved in a case being interviewed by media too seriously. Yet it sure seems like trauma sufficient to cause those sorts of fractures would have had obvious external trauma as well. Surely with that the room would have been looked at closely for a source of the trauma? I can certainly see a fall with force in a bathroom hitting the edge of a toilet being significant force, but without some sign of that having occurred? Seems less reasonable.

I mean, Saget was a famous and wealthy white guy. Odds are, if there were actually a reason to suspect foul play, the case would be getting tons of resources.
It seems like his family would be demanding more details.

Was thinking something similar: That Saget’s head may have struck something that concentrated blunt force onto a small section of his skull, amplifying the effect of a prosaic slip-and-fall.
Maybe a concrete parking chock? A well-seated bench, birdbath, or statuary? The brickwork/tiling around a fountain?

… lots of sharp edges in that hotel.
That bathtub faucet looks unfortunately situated, as well.
Off to look for some pictures of the lobby.
Loads of photos of the Orlando Grande Lakes Ritz-Carlton here. The lobby, lounge, an indoor fountain, etc. Plenty of opportunities for a freak head-hit if someone falls in the wrong place.
