His family as reported that Brian Denney has died of natural causes not related to COVID-19 at 81
He was in so many things I liked but one movie that I loved that doesn’t top any lists was F/X with Bryan Brown.
WOW…just yesterday I confused him with Charles Napier (dont ask) and was surprised to see he was alive

Oh, man…I was wondering why the obit filmographies didn’t mention Tootsie and The Music of Chance, and then I realized I always mix him up with Charles Durning.
F/X: The Deadly Art Of Illusion was actually a well-made paranoia-thriller with an atmosphere that harkened back to political thrillers like Seven Days in May or Three Days of the Condor but without the political underpinnings; both Dennehy and Brown were excellent in it. My call for his most underrated role, however, was in Presumed Innocent as District Attorney Ray Horgan.
Stranger
I remember him talking about his family and how he was satisfied with a middle tier career as an actor, how he didn’t need to go all out in Hollywood. But he was also addressing past alcohol problems, the Hollywood drug problem we don’t hear much about. That’s about it though, solid actor, kind of similar in acting style to Gene Hackman but he did very well in lighter roles as well. He played the father of David Spade’s character on Just Shoot Me, great comedic role for him as a big surly looking teddy bear. Ah well Brian, it’s as good a time as any to go now, you wouldn’t have missed anything good for a while. Sleep tight.
For a guy who could so easily have been typecast, I always admired his understated versatility as an actor. He was genuinely warm and sweet as the bartender in 10, yet scared the bejeezus out of me as John Wayne Gacy. As an actor, I liked him a lot. RIP, sir.

From the considerate alien in “Cocoon” to the not-so-accommodating sheriff in “First Blood”. And even the “maybe good guy” in “Silverado”
He will be missed.
He was able to put forth a perfect blend of charming and menacing in Silverado.
I really liked Silverado.
I feel like I’ve known him forever, but I can’t remember what, exactly, I remember him from.

One of my favorite character actors. I knew he was getting up there, and I hadn’t seen him in years, so I figured I’d be seeing this sooner rather than later.

I agree that F/X doesn’t get the appreciation it deserves.
One of the things I loved about Mr. Dennehy’s performances was that he always seemed to just be the person he was portraying. His performances looked effortless, not like acting at all; he was simply being the part.
I loved F/X and I loved Silverado. In fact, I think I always enjoyed him, wherever he showed up.

A number of years ago, we saw him with Nathan Lane in The Iceman Cometh in Chicago. The entire show was magnificent. Didn’t feel anywhere near 4 hours. The man had range.
