Richard was the perfect foil for Hyacinth.
I just saw him in Excalibur and thought he was really good.
I always hoped poor Richard was secretly giving ol’ Liz the rotten, rawwdawgg rogering of her life in the upstairs bathroom every time Hyacinth held one of her Candlelight Suppers. (With the Royal Doulton, of course)
RIP Clive.
He was on Doctor Who a few years back - I was quite surprised to see him (but recognized him right off).
Yes, he was in several episodes (the Tennant-era Christmas special, Voyage of the Damned, as Mr. Copper, a fraud “Earthologist”, and as Jobel in the Colin Baker era serial Revelation of the Daleks back in the 1985).
Noooooooooo. I loved him in KUA and he was a nice surprise in Dr. Who. Great actor. I’m going to have to re-watch KUA.
I always hoped that, too, **Royal Nonesutch. **
I was never a big fan of “Keeping Up Appearances”*, but I liked him on it. Very talented and funny.
- I always thought that Oslo, Daisy, and Rose should have been spun off into their own series.
Ahem. Onslow
He also played Dr. Black, a sort of narrator stand-in in a couple of the MR James-based BBC Ghost Stories for Christmas. “Clive Swift as Dr. Black” was how I identified the character, and was sorry he didn’t show up in more of them.
Just wanted to say that I’d happily date Rose given the opportunity.
RIP Richard. Will Hyacinth be singing at the funeral?
Missed opportunity:
Richard kicks the Boo-KAY
I loved that show and of the news? Well I’m sure Sheridan would be appalled.
Liz was married, you know; her husband lived abroad. Anyway, I always felt sure that Richard had had all of the sex squeezed out of him, along with the rest of his manhood, by all those years living with the Queen Mary.
Quite right.:smack:
Royal Nonesutch, great minds think alike.
I always suspected that one day he would finally crack, murder Hyacinth, bury her in the garden, and run off to Rio with Liz after selling the Royal Doulton with the hand-painted periwinkles to a china collector for an obscene sum.
Farewell, dear Richard, you will be missed.
“Richard, I will not have you lying in a cheap casket”
Good performer in a fun show. The perfect long-suffering husband.
