RIP David Carr

Yesterday Bob Simon, today this.

I wasn’t familiar with him but I follow a lot of journalists and my Twitter feed is going nuts with grief/condolence/reminiscing/people he helped/things he wrote RTs. In just a couple of hours I feel like I’ve known him for years. He was loved and admired.

And no, I don’t know why I didn’t follow him. I remember him now from when he temporarily did the Oscar season beat in 2006. I don’t know why I didn’t keep up with him. My Twitter feed has exploded. Just in the past few hours I’ve seen hundreds if not thousands of Tweets, and I follow less than 200 people, and most of them are Muted! It’s almost all RTs ranging from other journalists, to actors, filmmakers, authors, people he interviewed and wrote about and helped and encouraged and inspired. It’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen on Twitter (my feed, anyway).
Wow, the New York Times Archive has 1,776 pieces Carr wrote.

Yeah - reading this. Saw him on the documentary Page One and enjoyed reading him - a garrulous character with a sharp eye.

I also relate to his view on life:

Amen. Thanks Mr. Carr.

Oh, thank God. Upon noticing the thread title, I thought it was the mediocre quarterback from Fresno St. Still a tragedy.

Everything I’ve read by him has been interesting and worthwhile. I’ll miss his column.
