Grew up in Chicago. I didn’t follow hockey very closely, but I remember Mikita quite well…he, Bobby Hull, and Tony Esposito were the three great players they had at the time, if I recall correctly. I do remember that his parents had sent him to live with his aunt and uncle in Canada in hopes of giving him a better life–a story that always intrigued me.
Too bad. Another sports hero of my youth gone. I must be getting old.
