If you’ve created a second user name for yourself, you should e-mail an administrator soon and explain the situation. The administration seems to take a dim view of mutliple accounts.
what if the problem is life itself? how long is long enough to suffer before you are allowed to commit suicide? is it not selfish to demand that someone hang on to life when they do not want it?

Two weeks ago, I had a scare. Someone I know elsewhere posted something at a group I moderate which led me and others to believe that person might have committed suicide. As a result, I spent a few days trying to get a hold of this person’s ISP to find out if they were still alive. They were, but they had attempted suicide. Suicide is not a fucking joke! Acid Kid, your comments were about as unfunny as they could get and about as helpful as a can of kerosene in the World Trade Center, and one of the more offensive things even I’ve managed to see. Tell me, do you habitually shove people into traffic? That’s what your actions were the equivalent of.
Sorry, folks, I’ve been there. I deliberately stayed out of Mad Dog’s thread until this afternoon because I had a couple of job interviews yesterday and today, and I prefered rather not go into them with the memory of severe depression fresh in my mind. Call it selfish if you will. :rolleyes: When I read what Acid Kid posted, I was appalled. I hope you never find yourself in the position where suicide really does seem like the only “viable alternative”; I suspect it’s about the most hellacious place a human soul can find itself in.

Declining to make a bad situation worse is the same thing as usurping another human’s right to control his or her own body.

Well it depends on a case by case basis of course, but amazing things can be done these days with medicine and therapy, that are helping millions of people live better lives.
In the case of someone who is terminally ill, that’s something different.
no one knows how much a ‘chemical imbalance’ contributes to depression or suicidal ideation. you can’t say that that is why someone kills themself… only that it may have been a part of it.

what’s with the rolleyes? yes, he can certainly email the admins and explain that he’d gotten locked out of another account (presumably by loosing the password) and didn’t realize until it was pointed out to him in a thread (admitting that he didn’t remember it from the user agreement) that what he’d done was wrong and could they please cancel the one account and let him continue posting under the other.
I suspect that if they feel an honest mistake was made (vs. an intentional) they’ll cancel one account. If memory serves, they’ve done this before. (not, of course, for obvious trolls, socks etc, I might point out, though)
While I do not want to, in any way, condone the OP’s target’s actions, I do wonder: can we discuss suicide here? People have some fucking strong opinions on the subject, but I for one think it is too unexplored. I had some suicidal moments when I was about ten or fifteen years younger (somewhere in there) and I think the discussion would be interesting if it ever got beyond “suicide is for selfish idiots” and “if you are thinking of suicide you need to see help”. Could we ever take it beyond that?

i wouldn’t say that the opinion of the majority of this board is representative of the opinion of the majority of humanity. everyone has their own idea of what normality is… besides, until every registered and active poster contributes their sentiments to this thread you can’t say that how BURNER thinks is somehow aberrant.
Well, I wasn’t going to post here but if you want a show of hands as to who thinks BURNER has a lot to learn about compassion, count me in. What a cold way to go through life.
