Well, it can be a bit hard to keep straight sometimes. “Cows, pigs, chickens; OK to cut up. Children, well, not so much…”
Not gonna read the thread. Not gonna open the links.
I’m just gonna say that the next time the SDMB opens an expansion forum, a really good idea for one would be “Chamber of Horrors.”
Well, the “Elections” forum is relatively new, maybe that’s why you haven’t noticed it.
There should probably be some sort of public service bulletins posted around the New York area, then you wouldn’t have these problems.

Also maybe some of those NBC “The More You Know” public service things with TV stars.
For a long time I was on the fence, because it seemed like there were compelling arguments both for and against. While I’m not quite ready to come down one way or the other, this example certainly gives me pause.
FinnAgain:
I, for one, will go out on a limb and say that murdering and butchering children is, most likely, improper in certain circumstances.
That’s a pretty contentious position, isn’t it? I notice your marked lack of concern for murdered and butchered adults.

Where would you keep them, then?
Did the kid steal his bacon?
And for the record, that story is mind-bogglingly horrific, and is sounds like the guy was out of his batshitfucking mind
I have no tolerance for people who bury other people alive.

I would like to go on record stating that I strongly disapprove of killing small children and keeping their severed feet in the freezer.

I’m not sure why the question mark.
New York Penal - Article 125 - § 125.25 Murder in the Second Degree
A person is guilty of murder in the second degree when:
1. With intent to cause the death of another person, he causes the death of such person or of a third person; except that in any prosecution under this subdivision, it is an affirmative defense that:
(a) The defendant acted under the influence of extreme emotional disturbance for which there was a reasonable explanation or excuse, the reasonableness of which is to be determined from the viewpoint of a person in the defendant’s situation under the circumstances as the defendant believed them to be. Nothing contained in this paragraph shall constitute a defense to a prosecution for, or preclude a conviction of, manslaughter in the first degree or any other crime; or
(b) The defendant’s conduct consisted of causing or aiding, without the use of duress or deception, another person to commit suicide. Nothing contained in this paragraph shall constitute a defense to a prosecution for, or preclude a conviction of, manslaughter in the second degree or any other crime; or
2. Under circumstances evincing a depraved indifference to human life, he recklessly engages in conduct which creates a grave risk of death to another person, and thereby causes the death of another person; or
…
Murder in the second degree is a class A-I felony.
New York Penal - Article 70 - § 70.00 Sentence of Imprisonment for Felony
Maximum term of sentence. The maximum term of an indeterminate sentence shall be at least three years and the term shall be fixed as follows:
(a) For a class A felony, the term shall be life imprisonment;
…
(i) For a class A-I felony, such minimum period shall not be less than
fifteen years nor more than twenty-five years; provided, however, that…(B) where a sentence is imposed upon a defendant convicted of murder in the second degree as defined in subdivision five of section 125.25 of this chapter or convicted of aggravated murder as defined in section 125.26 of this chapter, the sentence shall be life imprisonment without parole,
Life imprisonment without parole is the minimum sentence for murder in the second degree.
But “first degree murder” sounds much more dramatic and Perry-Masony.

First-degree murder requires premeditation, no? I doubt they’d be able to prove that.
No, you don’t want to put meat in compost, it draws animals and the fat residue is just plain nasty smelling as it rots.

New York - First-degree Murder
Title H, Art. 125, Sec. 125-27
A person is guilty of murder in the first degree when:
1. With intent to cause the death of another person, he causes the
death of such person or of a third person; and
(a) Either:
<snip>
(vii) the victim was killed while the defendant was in the course of
committing or attempting to commit and in furtherance of robbery, burglary in the first degree or second degree, kidnapping in the first
degree , arson in the first degree or second degree, rape in the first
degree, criminal sexual act in the first degree, sexual abuse in the
first degree, aggravated sexual abuse in the first degree or escape in
the first degree, or in the course of and furtherance of immediate
flight after committing or attempting to commit any such crime or in the
course of and furtherance of immediate flight after attempting to commit
the crime of murder in the second degree; provided however, the victim
is not a participant in one of the aforementioned crimes and, provided
further that, unless the defendant’s criminal liability under this
subparagraph is based upon the defendant having commanded another person
to cause the death of the victim or intended victim pursuant to section
20.00 of this chapter, this subparagraph shall not apply where the
defendant’s criminal liability is based upon the conduct of another
pursuant to section 20.00 of this chapter;
*emphasis added
I don’t know about Perry-Masony, but it does sound more dramatic, befitting the crime.
Of course, it’s difficult to argue the elements based on “facts” culled from a USAToday article.
