Except it wasn’t my argument. Lay off the chronic dude.
From your own mouth:
From mine, before you opened yours:
And how are these not the same statements. A testament to your insanely L33t reading comprehension skills.
Keep casting those aspirations, sooner or later you will catch a fish. Or a boot.
Please be aware that I wear the articulated scorn of yammering con-symps such as yourself as a badge of honor.
Well maybe not honor per se, but still: it does amuse me, somewhat, when I think of cartoon steam, curling out of your little pig ears.
Bumper stickers can be pretty inciteful (is that a word?). I haven’t put one on my car since the time someone attacked my “I heart Golden Retrievers” sticker. Obviously, it was some damned Chow Chow lover.
While reading this thread I amused myself by picturing all the snarks in little cars waving their arms, pointing at signs, and trying to run each other off the board.
I think the acrimony of the thread is a demonstration of exactly that which you want to discuss. On this board, its like asking fish to discuss water.
When you say:
I say its because it takes a fuckwit to join a camp.
Which half? Pretty nasty primaries, you know…
I intentionally left out any reference to political affiliation when I made my statements about both sides not behaving equally. And unless you guys know which way I usually lean and reacted accordingly, you seemed to know that it was the loonies on the left that I was referring to.
Normally I wouldn’t jump in like this with both feet, but I reached my limit over the past few months with the behavior a couple of months before the election up to now. From the antics of Michael Moore and company who promised the end of days if Bush was reelected, and all of the over the top apocalyptic pronouncements of doom that followed, I’m just tired of the drama.
The anti-Bush folks pulled out every stop they could to prevent his reelection and fell short…and many of them still can’t get over it. They have been calling Bush voters stupid and worse since the day after the election.
And now some of them seem to want to take it upon themselves to punish those who dared to vote the wrong way.
Finally…yes it goes both ways. Someone who disagrees with me could sit here and trade cites back and forth all day. But the source of the greatest animosity and angst seems to rest on the left side of the isle. If both sides continue to view the other side as mortal foes in 2006 and beyond, the type of behavior referred to in the OP will sadly become more and more common.
So, what you’re saying is that, even in the face of contrary evidence, you’ll persist in your belief that the left is mainly to blame.
Nice way to perpetuate the animosty you claim to oppose.
Contrary evidence? What reason to people on the right have to be jerks now? I was addressing “post election trauma” and those can’t seem to deal with it.
Natural inclination?
Well, that’s a good question.
And yet, somehow, despite getting alomst everything they want in American politics over the past few years, plenty of them still manage it.
Mhendo, Why do you think the right in control of the White, House of Representatives, the Senate and the majority of Governorships?
?
this wouldn’t be a good time to respond “because most voters are stupid,” would it?
but seriously,
smacks of “I don’t care what’s said about it, I’m right” which is hardly an enlightened view.
The isle? Which island are we—? Sorry.
Yep, just talk to Ann Coulter. Or Rush Limbaugh. Or any of those level-headed right wingers. And then there’s Kerry, bashing dear CIC’s service record the way he did. Oh, wait…
The right complains when the left tells the truth about them. The left complains when the right tells lies about them.
I’m just waiting for somebody to bring up Ted Kennedy. In political debates somebody on the right always brings up Teddy Kennedy, like the right has only to avoid killing someone to avoid being criticized. Everything up to that is okay, evidently.
Ted is a great source of amusement for me. So is Robert Byrd. For those of you who objectively follow politics, you know these are not good times for the left side of the aisle. (Yes…aisle. Thank you, margin).
I address the question I asked mhendo to everyone. Why do you think the Republicans are having so much top to bottom success these days?
Taber danced around it. The answer that doesn’t require ideological reevaluation is that “most voters are stupid”…but do most of you really believe that?
Well, we’re not, really. What we have is a very thin margin of success spread very widely, which is what you need to win in our political system.
The GOP got wise to proper multi-channel marketing and message control. We’ve managed to stay focused on the fundamental value issues underlying the more narrow (or “detail”) issues.
[I still say “we” because, despite my decision to leave the party a couple of months back, I haven’t done it. My dislike for some of the national level leaders – and outright disgust at Bush’s immoral tactics and blatant betrayal of conservatism – just was not enough to overcome my concern for state and local issues.]
The GOP has focused on those demographics who, by their numbers and willingness to vote, can deliver a win. We’ve listened to their concerns, and we speak in their language.
The Dems are left trying to cobble together coalitions of disparate voting blocs and platforms of seemingly disjointed issues. I think the reason they did as well as they did in this past election was because of anger at Bush.
You’re shifting the goalposts. If you want a discussion of why conservatives have been successful, we can do that, but it’s quite a different issue from your previous question, which was:
And i answered that i didn’t really know the reason, but that, despite having control of the country, many conservatives still find a reason to be jerks. Maybe you can tell me why that is.
For one thing, I think that some people are predisposed to be jerks without regard to political affiliation.
For my own part, my tendency to become more combative was brought about by the antics of the left for the six months or so leading up to the election. As you know, the more informed you are, the easier you can see through BS both sides are putting out. I just heard that Bush was evil and there were conspiriacies afoot and that the world was going to end too many times. Add to that the antics of Michael Moore, Moveon.org and others…and I got fed up.
When Bush won, it was very difficult to resist the urge to scream out : “Bwa-ha-ha!, Fuck you, you rose-colored glasses wearing, naive liberal shithead! You tried your fucking best and you didn’t make it! HA HA FUCKING HA!”
I’m calming down now…but I think the animosity on both sides remains.
Yes, the antics of the right were only such as this:
Not to mention the SwiftVet nonsense.
Your side is no more innocent than mine, and, as a matter of fact, it might serve Democrats better to gain a little viciousness.
