Is is just me or does anyone else hear St. Elmo’s Fire music at the end of each of these commercials?
Yep, that’s exactly what it is.
I mildly disliked all of them up until Hairy Rob Lowe, which absolutely freaks me out.
This. But I do wonder how long it takes to put that all on there.
Super Creepy Rob Lowe didn’t freak you out??
I just YouTubed these because I didn’t know what you guys were talking about. Anybody else get the Crispin Glover impression from Painfully Awkward Rob Lowe? I nearly fell off the couch!
Super Creepy Rob Lowe is awesome. It made me want to go out and get cable and watch folks down at the pool.
I like the way regular Rob Lowe stiffens up when Super Creepy Rob Lowe walks in and puts his hand on his back.
Am I the only one who finds these commercials really annoying? (Of course, that could just be because I am an excessively hairy, socially awkward creep…)
No, I find them annoying AND disgusting as well.
Next to normal Rob Lowe, I think I prefer him.
Rob Lowe was at his best on those occasional cameos in Californication.
You’re not the only one.
I could tolerate them while he was at least talking about cable and DirectTV features. But when it’s “I have cable and I can’t pee” then that’s just plain stupid.
Love Rob Lowe. These commercials are making me rethink this position.
How you doin’? ![]()
It’s not widely known, but “crazy hairy” is actually how Rob Lowe looks naturally. To film that commercial, he cancelled his five-times-a-week body waxing appointments for a month.
I enjoy these commercials. I find them oddly entertaining. The hairy Rob Lowe is my favorite, so far.
I think they’re damn amusing. The latest one, pencil arm Rob Lowe, is right in line with the rest. They’re a great use of and play on his character actor persona.
I think they’re amusing but they play too often. Not going to get me to switch to DirectTV though, so ultimately they are a fail.
Just as an aside, I have both DirecTV and cable (Cox, actually). (I guess I’m both cool and super creepy. But I don’t have excess body hair. But I digress…)
I can’t stand DirecTV. The customer service is horrible. Long automated menus that want to reboot your system before they’ll let you talk to a real person, who never seemed able to help me (and the problem turned out to be an easy fix, but they never seemed to understand the symptoms). The box takes what seems like forever to go between channels, and takes about 5-10 seconds before the channel guide comes up. And, at least in past years, they didn’t seem to understand the NFL blackout rule, blacking out games they shouldn’t. Plus the annoying DTV popups that interrupt my games, such as “the system needs to download new data. Would you like to download now?” If you let it, kiss 10 minutes of your program goodbye.
The Cox guys can be dicks sometimes, but no where near as bad as DTV. And I had DTV in the 90s and it was great - none of these annoyances.
