Rock Band 3 DLC: Party tracks?

Ok, so I’m thinking of getting Rock Band 3 to play with my friends. Thing is, we like pop songs.

TL;DR: What DLC is good for parties, pop music that everyone will recognise? They’re not really into hard rock, so no Metallica, Slayer, none of that.

For now, I’m thinking

Alanis Morisette
Oasis
Bon Jovi
Queen
“According to you” -Orisiwhaever
“In the end” - Linkin Park

I’m thinking Lady Gaga is going to be waaaay too boring on the drums, but I might get Bad Romance/Poker Face for song recognition factor.

Background: Now, some of you might be saying, “Get Band Hero! It’s got Taylor Swift and all that fluffy crap you want”. True! In fact, the reason why we’re getting into this is because we borrowed a friend’s XBox, and he had Band Hero, and we had a complete BLAST playing Taylor Swift and No Doubt.

But we’ve returned the XBox now, and I wanna get Rock Band 3 because I want to play Pro drums (because I used to play the drums a loong time ago, and those plastic drums are like all of the fun with none of the work :D), and the missus plays piano (she didn’t know and didn’t want to learn the plastic guitar and drums, so she got kinda left out…).

List of songs for convenience.

A few of my suggestions (going for a little older stuff here, for the most part):

  • No Doubt, The Singles 1992-2003
  • Journey, “Don’t Stop Believin’”
  • Pat Benatar, “Heartbreaker,” “Hit Me With Your Best Shot”
  • The Police, “Roxanne”
  • The B-52s, “Roam”
  • The Black Crowes, “Hard to Handle”
  • Blondie, “Call Me”
  • The Who, “Baba O’Riley,” “My Generation,” “Who Are You” - not pop but fun
  • Duran Duran, “Rio”
  • Fall Out Boy, “I Don’t Care”

We had a little Rock Band 3 get-together at a buddy’s house last night. We got all of the Lady Gaga songs and people were thrilled. Yeah, the drums is a little repetitive on a couple, but it’s a good way to ramp up the difficulty setting and try it out, and they were hugely popular (all of the tracks got played, some multiple times). Our rule is that the vocalist chooses the song, and they’re all pretty fun to sing.

“Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Piano Man” are must-gets.

They just released some Bee Gees songs; let me tell you, listening to a guy try to sing Stayin’ Alive was hilarious. Best laugh of the night.

“The Gambler” was also good for the fellas; it’s easy to sing.

Edit: Oh, and “Tribute” by Tenacious D if the audience skews in the late 20s or so.
