"Rock You Like a Hurricane" by Scorpions now 'insensitive'

What’s next? Can’t play Crazy Train after a rail crash?

Well, when Katrina hit, I remember reading “When The Levy Breaks” was the most popular song played on (on line) juke boxes in the south.
Ya’ never can tell with some people.

It does seem to be a particularly poor choice of music for this occasion…

Am I being overly sensitive to the irony of a team still called The Braves worried about meteorological delicacy?

It was insensitive and disrespectful for a non-Florida team facing a Miami team to play that song.

If it was the other way round, and the Miami team had played it, it would have been okay.

Jews can make Jewish jokes, Blacks can call each other ‘nigger’, people facing a hurricane can play hurricane songs - others can’t.

Yeah, it’s insensitive right this moment, but weather is changeable, and this too shall pass.

“Braves Apologize for playing ‘Rock You Like A Hurricane’ during Marlins game…”

As a giant hurricane has caused evacuations statewide and is about to make landfall.
An insensitive thing at this particular time. Obviously. Sorry for your struggle coming to terms with this, OP.

Just heard on the radio: first death attributed to the storm reported.

I’m reminded of the words of Bob Dole, who said, “There is such a thing, you know, as compassion.”

Perhaps they should poll the fans for their relationship status’ before playing ‘50 Ways To Leave Your Lover’.

Compassion, ya know.
mmm

“Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey: Insensitive towards atheists.

“When the Levy Breaks”?

Totally offensive. If you’re not Jewish, you can’t make that joke.

Years ago, we had a season of massive rainfall here in Sacramento, and there were legitimate fears that the rivers would overflow and cause devastating flooding. I recall listening to one of the local rock stations; they were having an ‘all request hour’, and at one point the DJ came on between songs to announce “OK people, we’re *not *going to play ‘When the Levee Breaks’, so please stop asking for it”.

Oh, you know people these days. Don’t do things their way and they’ll blindly call you a fascist, misogynist, racist, xenophobic a-hole.

In the aftermath of an earthquake, then, let’s hope we don’t hear Elvis’s “I’m All Shook Up” at an A’s game, or FM’s “Landslide” at a Dodgers game, say, last Jan.

Th’fuck is going on in this thread? A home team made a boneheaded move that was really unkind towards the away team, and got called on it. The response is a reflexive “Waaaah PC ruinin’ my fun!” If your response to me saying, “We had to evacuate our homes at short notice. I seriously hope there’s something left of our house when we get back,” is to pull up a song that mocks the disaster that forced me to flee, I’m probably going to call you a tool and unfriend you you, because that is a dick move. It’s not about “PC” in any meaningful sense, it’s about not being an asshole. What the hell, guys?

“Take Me Out To The Ball Game” : Insensitive to those with peanut allergies.

Count me among those who are puzzled by why you think this might be perfectly fine when a hurricane is actually bearing down on the opponents’ home town.

Well, if the Boston Red Sox played it when hosting a Yankees game immediately after a major train crash in New York, I would think it would be seen as pretty assholish.

It’s context that’s important. I don’t know why you don’t understand that.

Of course, none of those examples are comparable to that in the OP.

The song was in the Braves’ playlist. If they had been playing the Cubs or the Cardinals totally cool, nobody would have said a word. Somebody had a brain fart and didn’t consider they were playing a Florida team. The Braves apologized and won’t play the song for the rest of the homestand. No biggie. I’m sure by the time they play the Nats, it’ll be old news.

I’m siding with BPC and Colibri on this issue, but those damn Floridians will only take my copy of Neil Young’s American Stars n’ Bars from my cold, dead hands.
