ElzaHub just called and said he’d heard WCBS reporting that the Rockettes have walked out of Radio City on a ‘strike’ of sorts - about 45 minutes ago. I’m not finding it on news sites yet - anyone else see it anywhere?
There was something brewing recently. I think a lot of the women were upset because a new contract would have denied them any maternity leave, paid or otherwise. The bosses claimed it was to discourage women from trying to make a whole career out of being a Rockette.
Did they form a kick line while carrying their picket signs? I can see it now - anybody who tries to cross the picket line gets the sharp end of a line of shoes to the groin, all in unison.
What the F do the Rocekttes do anyway? I only see them presented as back up performers doing the kick line… Do they actually do a show? With dancing and what not?
Oh yes…they have an entire show, or at least used to when I lived in NYC. Synchronized dance lines, intricate weaving in and out, lots of costume changes.
However, it is a show you really only have to see once, if that.
They are always a fun part of the Christmas show, but they are more of a tradition than great talent - although I am sure there are hours and hours of practice every day to be able to do it correctly.
Pia Zadora (remember her?) once had a one-woman show called, “Too Short To Be A Rockette”.
