Youtube of Bobby Day here. Youtube of Jackson 5 here. Which do you prefer?
I’m partial to Day’s version even though I’m closer to Michael Jackson’s age.

Michael Jackson! I’m a huge fan of his so I might be biased. Nitpick, wasn’t this released as just an MJ solo hit, as opposed to a Jackson 5 song? Though they may have performed on the track and I’m assuming from that link that they performed it live together, too.
I’m not sure. It’s on my “Michael Jackson’s Greatest Hits” CD but so are some obvious J5 songs like “ABC” and “Stop the Love You Save May Be Your Own.” Yes, the link has the group’s rendition.
Off topic: I’m surprised that you could answer and reply to the poll while I was still previewing.
I think the thread posts before the poll because the poll wasn’t there until just now. And I just voted–the first vote for the Jackson 5!
Correct it was.
Got To Be There (#4), Rockin’ Robin (#2) and Ben (#1) were Michael Jackson’s solo top ten hits till he released the album Off The Wall
Bobby Day took Rockin’ Robin to #2 as well. Both songs were #2 for two weeks so they were pretty much a tie, except Day’s version charted on the R&B charts at #3 and Jackson’s didn’t chart there.
I think Jackson’s voice suited the song better.
I prefer this version.
They both stink, but the Michael Jackson version is more annoying.
I prefer the original.
When you’re my age(65), it’s no contest. What you heard when it first came out is the one you remember forever.
