Rodd Hill--Now in 3D!!

Well, after ten months of waiting, Ottawa has finally opened our Parks Canada 3D website (they rejected my title suggestion of “Rodd Hill’s 3D House of Artillery,” though).

When you consider that the person who made the 3D model has never actually visited here, they did a pretty good job. There are not nearly enough trees, and the majestic Olympic Mountains are missing from the background, but what the hey.

Make sure you click on the WW2 Willys jeep, Johnny L.A.!

There are a few little errors that crept in (mostly spelling, which I am trying to get the webmeister in Ottawa to correct), but overall, I’m pretty happy with the result. I’m not up on the technical side of how they did the modelling, but I’ll try and field any questions.

To see the site properly, your system should have: DirectX 8.0. Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP. Internet Explorer 5 or greater. Second Generation 3D card.

If you go back to the Parks Canada homepage, there are other Forts in 3D to visit (Louisbourg, Halifax Citadel, etc); soon to be added to the website will be 3D Endangered Species for the National Parks of Canada, including the Blandings Turtle, and the Banff Springs Snail. No, really. Snails in 3D.

Any feedback?
