Role Call for Musicians on the SDMB

I’m just really curious as to who any other musicians are out there. Anybody in a rock band, marching group, etc? What do you play?

-nut-

I play a killer dashboard and my skills on the wineglass are uncontested.

I play guitar; not in any bands (keep trying to start one, but I can never find a percussionist AND a bassist, only one or the other).

I can also read music and plink on the keyboard.

I’m a tuba player (duh!) and march and play and all that stuff. Woohoo…

Well, I blow bass (electric, though I want to play stand-up). I also play electric guitar, though my bass is my main ax. Not in a band right now, though. Currently looking around.
I have been in a few bands playing trumpet, but nothing recently.
I have also played harmonica in the past, and still play every once in a while. I’m also pretty good at the mouth-harp (that thing that Snoopy always pulls out and plays in the Peanuts movies).

Hijack!

Is it PC to call a mouth harp a Jew’s Harp?

I really don’t know. Hope I don’t offend anyone with that, it’s just what I’ve always heard them called.

Also, I fiddle around with my strat clone once in a while, but can’t play a single tune all the way through, although I’ve a mastered a few portions of Pink Floyd and Marley songs.

I suppose it would only be fair to include what I play.
I play piano, mostly jazz; ALL percussion, inclusive of rudimental snare, quads, and bass drum, all keyboard/mallet percussion (i.e. vibes, marimba), and the ol’ drumset.
I’m currently in a Grateful Dead cover band as the lone drummer. I’ve marched in the Conquistadors drum and bugle corps in the pit. I play in my school Jazz Combo on piano and the marching band as section leader on snare. I hope to go to Berkeley next year to major in music and to some day march Santa Clara Vanguard.

Tubagirl, do you march any corps?

Hi, I’m Mike, I play guitar.

I’m good too, just ask me.

Nah…

…but really, there’s not much I can’t play.

I’m a percussionist. Mostly mallets. I never did corps, mostly because DE wasn’t a condusive location.

Oh, and I play the harmonica.

I sing in a large chorus and a chamber choir…and I sing along with my jazz cds and alternative rock radio.

Oh, and Im majoring in music (voice, duh).

I was going to march Magic last summer but I had to work the summer instead. I march for UCF knights and play professionally at area attractions in orlando. I am considered rare, as a female, to play the tuba. Especially in central florida. it is fun beingan oddity.

Erstwhile oboist, now play alto recorder and radio (occasionally guitar).

Violin. Since I was eight. You should try it some time.

Now tell me I’m not the only string player here (besides, of course, the guitarists <shudder>)

i TRY to play fiddle, but my fiddle is a piece of garage-sale crap and keeps having technical difficulties. My male friend is a very good cellist and vaguely familiar with violins, and he says he’ll try to solve at least enough fiddle-problems for it to be playable, but i’m not expecting any miracles (even if his nickname IS jesus).

Not to brag, but I’m not bad at the fiddle when it’s working. I’d been playing it for a day and a half and I could play along with the Dixie Chicks’ “Cowboy Take Me Away”. Then the bridge broke and one of the pegs came loose.

Cool you play bass too? I play electric and acoustic… they both kick major ass. What do you play?

I compose instrumental music in classical, jazz, folk, Irish, blues and rock styles. I also sing and write lyrics for blues, rock and folk. My own song catalog runs into the hundreds of compositions. I have appeared on radio and television. I have played solo and in bands, run open microphones and produced talent showcases. I have a complete eight channel stereo PA system with snake plus all the mics and speakers needed to do a full stage performance. At home I have a four channel open reel and cassette recording studio with eight channel mixdown system.

Did I mention that music is my life?

PS: Other than a year and a half of piano lessons when I was five (now forgotten), I am totally self taught and cannot read sheet music.

Woops… I meant what MUSIC do you play?

Clarinet is all that I can play well, but I also know some trumpet and piano, and have played tuba, trombone, alto saxophone, percussion and guitar.

I sing and I play music on my throat and parts of my face and head. I’ve also played drums.

I’ve played the flute since i was in fifth grade. Also took piano lessons for a few years, but my teacher, though very very good, was a bitch and i couldn’t stand her.
