I’ve noticed many dopers with a claim to musical talent and thought an inventory of instrumental abilities might be interesting.
I used to play the trumpet and saxophone. Kind of a strange combination, but high school bands will do that to you. Sadly, I haven’t played either in years. I think I’d also enjoy taking up piano some day, but right now I have neither the space at home nor the time to do it right. Sigh, maybe someday.
So, what musical instruments do the rest of the TM’s play, or wish they played? Vocalists? Conductors?

Being from the country…you know the saying … you can take the girl out of the country but you can’t take the country out of the girl…I play the washboard…lol
Played violin for 9 years. I have one of those “Best of Classical Music” type collections, and whenever I listen to it, I’m like “Played that one, that one…wanted to play that one…”
I’m learning to play guitar…my vast repetoire of songs currently includes “With or Without You,” “Closer to Fine,” and that Pearl Jam song with the long ass title.
Finally, I sing as well. I’m a soprano I, which is the lower soprano range…generally I just say I have a vocal range like a violin. Unfortunately, I don’t get to sing anywhere besides church anymore…
“Jesus Mary Joseph…you’re a biker chick!” - co-worker, upon hearing of my tattoo.
Flute is my major instrument, but I could fill in on sax, clarinet, baritone horn, or piano if needed. Also recorder or krumhorn if you’re getting an early music band together.
I’m a flutist. Been playing for twelve years now - not bad when you consider I’m only 21. I’m also a pretty good piccoloist, although there is debate as to whether there is such a thing as a good piccoloist. Oh, and I used to double on mallet percussion in high school, which is great fun.

I’m a mezzo soprano with a low alto range (at least, that’s what my voice teacher told me). That’s pretty hard for me to believe–I have such a low speaking voice, and I have always sung second alto in choir. I have even pinch-hitted for an absent tenor on more than one occasion. Still, I can manage the mezzo range without a problem (an F# is about as high as I can comfortably go). Classically, my voice is decent, but I much prefer rock and the blues.
My rock voice is somewhere inbetween Bonnie Raitt and Shania Twain (at least, their music is the most comfortable to sing and I blend well with them). I can sing Meredith Brooks, too, but my sound isn’t anywhere near as nasal as hers.
Heck, if y’all are interested enough, there’s a .wav of my singing voice (the sweeter rock version–not quite classical, not quite Raitt) at my website.
I also play (a little) guitar and piano.

I used to think the world was against me. Now I know better. Some of the smaller countries are neutral.
I played the alto sax in the high school band, but I haven’t had a sax in my hands for more than two decades.
I used to be able to put out a decent rendition of “Stranger on the Shore,” and “Wild Weekend,” but that was then. I doubt if I could do the scales now.
