I play trumpet in the same marching band tuerca8 is in. I can also play some trombone, baritone, and guitar. Nowhere near as talented as some people, but good enough for me.
Well I only posted a few words earlier, I’ll explain more:
I’m a self taught and formally taught guitarist. I play electric, acoustic and classical guitar. One of my teachers was a student of Eric Johnson, and the other was a student of Joe Satriani. My style, interestingly enough, is prolly closest to that of Steve Vai. I have performed live with a band and solo. However, the past year or so I have been reclusive with my playing. Spending lots of time by myself composing, recording, working with drum machines and effects processors. I write a song every few days: it might be jazz, fusion, funk, rock, metal, country, classical, folk or intermingling different combinations of these types of music. Anyways, I love music and I love the guitar–It’s like my own personal artistic launching pad. Maybe someday yall will hear me all over the radio, then I can brag about it here
I play bass trombone. I also played euphonium in the Glassmen Drum & Bugle Corps this past summer. If I had some more time, I’d kind of like to learn bass, but I’m not sure I could get someone to teach me.
Hey there orion. Nice to hear there are more bass players on the boards. I play a Fender Precision 4-string, mostly. Though, I’m looking into getting an Ernie Ball Music Man 5-string. I want to get an acoustic (tried it and loved it), but I’ve got to shop around first.
Now, as to what kind of music I play…a lot of different stuff. I like pretty much any music except country, and any bass style I hear I immediately want to play. So, I play funk (a lot of this lately), punk, ska, jazz (one of the main reasons I want a stand-up), heavy metal, rap-metal, rock, pop, hard core/thrash, folk. Also, I have a couple of friends that are really good guitar players, so they’ll tell me songs to learn for when we jam. Then there’s my own stuff, which doesn’t really fit well into a category. It ranges from hard core, to rock, to lullabyes. I write quite a bit.
Since Ad Noctum chimed in with his fav Bass Tab web site, I though I might throw out a couple.
Bass Tab Archive
Huge; all styles of music. I’ve written tabs for them, actually. If the band has bass in it, you’ll find them here.
Talk Bass.com
Another huge bass place. 'Cept, they also have articles and the like.
I would also suggest Punk Guitar Archive, but they seem to be down right now.
What choir are you joining? There are probably MN Dopers who would like to hear you sing. I know imthjckaz and I would probably try to come if it weren’t too far, and I’ll bet sandyr would come with us if we could work it all out.
I’ve played piano for 11 years, and it’s my primary instrument. Almost all classical, though, and I really can’t improvise or play by ear. That’s the problem with classical, is that it’s all sheet music, and I haven’t gotten a good enough grasp of chord progressions and such. I really wanna take jazz lessons, but don’t know if I’d have time.
Next to that, I just started playing harmonica, which I’m self taught on and can’t play more than a few diddies on. Right now I’m working on bending notes, and having a bitch of a time.
Oh, yeah, you can add me to the list of electric bass players, though I’m in the same boat as with harmonica: beginner, and having trouble with the self-teaching.
I try to play trumpet, but I’ve lost an entire octave since my junior year of high school. Marching band and pep band, I can’t wait for basketball to start.
I play drums. Been in a couple of bands (rock, mostly), but nothing more than just jamming and messing around.
I was in a marching band for 2 years, and learned a valuable lesson: If you drop a drumstick during a parade, don’t stop to pick it up, especially if the woodwinds are right behind you staring intently at their music. Makes for a nice little pile-up, and earned me the name “Fumble Fingers”.
I play a little acoustic guitar, but nothing to brag about.
Trying to play more jazz type stuff.
I tried to teach myself the clarinet, but the only thing I can manage to do is get spit pouring out the bell end.
I’m a vocalist. (1st or 2nd soprano. Still finding out which. Jeez, puberty sucks!) I take weekly voice lessons with a wonderful teacher. I’m also in my school chorus and am praying that I get into All County Chorus this year. It’ll never happen though, 'cause I can’t sight read!
I can also play “Hot Cross Buns” without much confidence on the recorder. 3rd grade music education. Where would we be without it?
I play the tenor saxophone, flute, tuba, and piano, currently.
I used to play pipe organs in churches.
I have recorders in the house, from sopranino down through bass (not going to count those, because anyone who can figure out how to play the sax or the flute should be able to master the recorder).
My 10-year-old daughter is taking trumpet now, and I seem to be getting my chops back on that, much to her disgust.
Spiderwoman & SaNdYr~~
I will be joining (if all goes well) the Brainerd Senior High A Capella choir, in the past 4 years, they have been invited to France, Italy, Hawaii, and other exotic nations, so much travelling done by me, just because I can sing… this is gonna be great
