Romanian Pop

Romanian pop music is glorious. It’s sooo bad it’s good. Anyone else have any thoughts?

The only Romanian pop I know is that O-Zone song, aka the Numma Numma song, it was a hit here when it came out. Any other good Romanian pop?

Ooooh - I didn’t like that weird Numa Numa song. BUT I would recommend Inna (her song 10 Minutes is very Lady Gaga-esque), Elena Gheorghe and Alexandra Stan. Alexandra Stan has this really, REALLY bad song called Lollipop - her next, Mr. Saxobeat is a huge improvement.

That’s Moldovan. Sure the languages are pretty much the same, but don’t tell that to some people…

Ah yeah I know but I really didn’t want to get into it. They moved to Romania where their success began. It was called Romanian in the media here, I later found out they were Moldovan and they sing in the Moldovan dialect. Why I know this I can’t tell you, useless information seems to be trumping useful in my head.

By the way pity **Vox Imperatoris **doesn’t post here anymore. He was mad into Eastern European pop.

Aww, that would have been awesome to talk to him/her. None of my friends appreciated it the way I do and want to discuss it with me. (Hence my posting here, hoping to fuel a discussion!)

I just love the lyrics that are so corny they are wonderful that are sung in heavily accented but clearly articulated English. And the surrealistic videos that are not ashamed to feature young women in their underwear.

I’m so thrilled that somebody else actually likes this stuff! Nobody I know personally does.

Agreed! It’s soooo funny. Sometimes the lyrics don’t even make sense! But the tunes are so catchy… My guy friend was watching the video “Lollipop” by Alexandra Stan. If you haven’t seen it, it features Stan (who looks like she’s about 16) in THE skimpiest school girl outfit licking a lollipop singing about how she’s so delicious (and she, of course, doesn’t pronounce “delicious” without her accent, so that makes it better). I was totally grossed out by my friend watching the video… but then I saw on iTunes she has a new song, “Mr. Saxobeat” and it’s surprisingly an AWESOME song! And the video, while still sexual, is really a step up.
