Rome

A. The modern city in Italy

B. The ancient Roman Empire

A and B, but having been to Rome it is impossible to consider it just a modern city, there are so many reminders still standing of ancient Rome. But I guess my main thought was “Rome, what might that be about” followed by “Liberal this might be an interesting thread” therefor I moused over the thread title to get the thread content pop-up.

First thought was the new HBO Series.

After reading the OP I was wondering…Jim Rome? That fucker…

OOOOOH, what series? Tell! Tell!

The grandeur that was B.

Jim Rome.

… but that’s probably because his radio show is on in my office as I browse the 'dope.

A. The modrn Italian city

ancient Rome. Probably because the husband watches the History/History International channels constantly.

A, B, & C are all mixed together in my mind. So - them.

My first reaction was to ask what was meant; because this was IMHO, my first guess was the same as GorillaMan’s. Then I tried to list other things that might be appropriate; first result was the Club of Rome, by which time my mouse had made it to the title to see the rollover preview, and the secret was out of the bag.

“C. The ancient Roman Republic” followed closely by “B. The ancient Roman Empire”. Courtesy of college classes in Roman history and classical latin.

F. The new HBO series.

Ancient Roman empire, followed by Republic.

The ancient Roman Republic.

My first thought was “Rome. What about it?” I had the concept of the modern city, the ancient city, and the ancient empire in my mind. Then I thought that maybe it was some kind of travel suggestion thread, so just the modern city.

But you would, wouldn’t you.

F) ROME is the name of the group of contractors that supply technicians etc at my research center.

However, whenever I see their name I think if the Roman Empire because my GF fall asleep to the history channel.

B. The ancient roman empire.

B.;

followed closely by

A;

followed closely by

Biggus Dickus.

And then remembering wandering around the Baths of Caracalla too long, and missing my flight out of Rome back to the UK, and being stuck in the airport there with all of 4000 lire to my name (about $4 Canadian). Good times.

/Awaiting the “Deadwood: The Pompey Years” with great anticipation…

I thought you were on your way there, and wondered how many posts it would take for someone to tell you to do like the Romans do.

I first thought it would be a thread dedicated to finding out what people first thought of when presented with the title “Rome”.

No, just kidding. I thought (A), the modern Italian city.
