Sure, like he ‘distanced’ himself from the “how do we beat the bitch?” comment. McCain is too busy pandering to distance himself from his base like that.
Well, just read today about how John Bolton is dissing GeeDub for being a wussy about Iran (quotes available at Think Progress http://thinkprogress.org/2008/02/08/bolton-mccain/.) and pressing on about how much “stronger” McCain would be.
(Warning! Lefty news site, tighty rightys proceed shields up!)
I haven’t seen anything like a reaction yet. Leastwise McCain doesn’t seem to be rushing to contradict Rootin’ Tootin’ John. His TV ads are heavy on military themes.
No, I definitely don’t like the way this is developing.
That old Beachboys song, Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran seems answer enough to me.
Good grief. I like McCain, but that’s a pretty juvenile joke, and even “I’m no good at warm-up jokes, gimme somethin’,” doesn’t justify it.
I thought Stewart had the best response possible to that speech. I also loved Stewart’s comment “I thought the France of the 21st century was… France”.
Did anybody notice that he never referred to McCain as John but referred to Senators Clinton and Obama as Hillary and Barack twice but by their title & surnames only once? Nice little subliminal diminutizing there.
From Romney’s speech:
So it sounds like Romney’s view of hell would be a bunch of people living in the desert practicing non-traditional marriage and pursuing an ideal of a theocratic dictatorship based on the not-to-be-questioned-or-figuratively-translated words of a long dead prophet. Wonder what the ancestors whose religion he proudly practices would think of that stance.
And not always plagiarized from Neil Kinnock, either.
I think that this sums it up best:

The hippest Mormon ever is clearly Gladys Knight.
I don’t know how Romney and Huckabee have gotten his far, really. They are both such obvious religious whackjobs, and their own downplaying of this to appeal more to the middle has been less than convincing. I thought the Republican nomination would come down to McCain and Giuliani; I hadn’t counted on Mr. 9/11 to go out so easily, but when he did, I knew it was McCain’s. The others are just… insane. Practically any Democrat could wipe the floor with Mitt or Huck in the general; heck, even Chelsea Clinton would probably stand a good chance…
It’s the logical conclusion of Reagan’s pact with the religious right.
Romney has the same persona as Kerry. They seem stiff ,wooden and out of touch. Money is separating us. Its hard to relate to the super rich for most of us.
When Clinton showed she had 5 million sitting around it shocked me. When they left the whitehouse they were saddled with legal debts from the repub witch hunting. Now they are rich. Quick turnaround. She may have to explain how she got so rich so fast.
You have heard of speaking engagements, consulting fees and the fact that people who’ve been in Washington for a while have financial connections you and I could only dream of.
And somebody correct if I’m on the wrong track, but isn’t it probable that their legal bills were paid for through some legal defense fund donated by others?
Don’t forget book deals. I know Bill got at least one after he left, and I think Hillary did as well. Bill’s probably on the board of directors of a company or two, so he no doubt get’s money for that.
To have 5 million sitting around. It was a good book deal but to get from nowhere to there in 7 years. Not bad. Its not that they have made 5. They obviously have made much, much more. Inquiring minds want to know.
Senators make about 170 grand. Long way to go.
I think Bill gets 6 figures for giving a speech. I imagine he’s managed to bank some pretty good coin on speaking tours alone.
