I have just been having a hell of a time keeping straight which one is DeSantis and which one is Shemp. So I put together a little illustrated guide:
One of them is a hapless clown sidekick. The other one is Shemp.
Here’s a reference image. I can’t remember which one is which, but will post later if I can figure it out.

Profile in cowardice:

Ron DeSantis Was Silent on Zelensky’s Speech

This does illustrate the disadvantage members of Congress have in running for the presidency. Senators had to decide whether to participate in the ovations.

Hoping for some Putin cash and/or opposition disinformation?

This is where I’m at for now. A large number of TFG’s followers are cultists that would sooner drink the Flavor-aid than switch teams to DeSantis for rational reasons. Enuf of them may sit on their hands in petulant protest come election day if their idol is not on the ballot, maybe enuf to affect the outcomes in a few close contests.

Putin may not have any cash to spare for Ron. From what I’m hearing, the Russian economy is collapsing like a flan in a broom closet. If Vlad coughs up some gold, maybe.

n/m off topic…

Does anyone else feel like the past few months have made it more likely DeSantis will run for 2024? Trump’s authority and spotlight feel like they’re waning to me.

If I’m right, it seems like this also means an increase in odds of a bitter primary battle, which I’m looking forward to. No way Trump bows out for anything barring death at this point.

I suspect you’re right.

Most definitely yes to everything you posted.

If Trump was still the absolute dominant force in the Republican party like he was in 2020 then DeSantis might have considered sitting out so as to avoid getting on Trump’s bad side. But now we have even Boebert and Gaetz snubbing Trump’s chosen speaker pick, so clearly Trump isn’t the force he was and DeSantis is the obvious successor. So he would be stupid not to run.

For Trump’s part, win or lose the grift goes on, so he won’t back down, and the louder and more obnoxious he is the more he can rile his remaining supporters to hand over the cash. Losing the nomination just opens the window to “Stop the steal 2024 primary edition” with 50 individual elections that were fixed by the RINO deep state.

Somebody’s worried:

That’s gonna be ugly and we’re going to be unable to resist watching, isn’t that so?

Give them knives and put them in the dome. “Two men enter, one worm leaves!”

A post was merged into an existing topic: How can christians be allowed to vote , or a judge , or run for office (in the cornfield)

Am I wrong to see this as hopeful for 2024?

Trump seems dead in the water right now, very few people seem willing to back him, and the various prosecutions should ripen in the next few months. Probably the one thing he has any degree of skill with is throwing muck.
Meanwhile DeSantis has the charisma of a bucket of sick, and looked awful in his debates against Crist (yeah he still did really well…I’ll admit I don’t understand that). And he’s got where he is by copying Trump’s words and mannerisms.

So it will be the awful apprentice fighting the misinformation master. Add in that the Republican party seems to be splitting apart.

Surely everyone involved is going to look dreadful, and unfit for office?

Definitely. Which means Republican voters will turn out in droves for them.

He was running against Crist. The Florida Dems found themselves having given up hope on the governor’s race and recurred to recycling a crossover former-R former governor (they figured if they were going to risk a good sitting officeholder, it was going to be against Rubio where it could be more nationally critical).
