I can see not agreeing with her views, but IMO if she has a talk show and wants to air those views, then she can. Heck, it’s her show. If you’re pissed, be pissed at Warner Brothers for refusing to stand up to her. But nobody said you give up your right to free speech by becoming an entertainer.
I’m sure if it was Jerry Springer standing up to his network so that he could blather on about women who defend their right to dress like prostitutes & have unprotected sex with illiterate knuckle dragging troglodytes you would tell people to change the channel if they don’t want to hear it. I thought about it before I posted, and I don’t think this belongs in the pit. If the mods move it there, that’s fine with me. I always thought the pit was more for releasing my venom on another doper, which I haven’t really ever done. (other than a sarcastic remark or two) This was the “I’m sharing that I don’t like Rosie. O’”, so I thought this seemed the appropriate forum. I don’t about mundane, but it sure qualifies as being pointless.
Annnnywaaay, I think that yes, I would feel the same way regardless of the issue, and regardless if I like the host to begin with. i.e. I like Letterman, but I think he used his show as a tool to popularlize Gore, and make Bush look bad (I felt like Bush was ambushed). I think he has too much influence to do that. The same with Rosie O’Donnell.
O.K., so I was a little harsh. I apologize for that. However, I think a more accurate statement is “I also realize that she had the balls to stand up for something Barbra Streisand believed in.” She shouldn’t be fighting other peoples political battles.

I think that was one of the more courageous things she’s done. I never liked her because I thought it was sorta two-faced of her not to come out, but now I think she’s great. She has a show and she’s doing something positive with it with the charity she does on her show.

No, but it behooves them not to piss off their program syndicator, and in turn it behooves the syndicator not to air programs that will make audiences switch the channel. Rosie has the luxury of having a popular, profitable talk show. If she were not pulling the ratings she was, she’d have been told not to let the door hit her in the ass on the way out.
What amuses me more is the idea that anyone would vote for anything based on what Barbara Streisand has to say (limousine liberalism, anyone?), not to mention that, as quoted in the link, someone charges what she does for concerts is remotely interested in “consumer’s rights.”

Free speech. I’m all for it. (Incidentally, I’m also against child pornography and domestic violence. And I love puppies.) Please point out where I said O’Donnell should not have been allowed to air the tape. (Hint from a super-hero: don’t bother.) Even if WB had refused to allow the tape, nothing prevented Rosie/Streisand from presenting their views in any one of countless other forums. And if Rosie’s viewers don’t want to be ignorant, they can pick up a goddamn newspaper, web-surf some political sites, or change the fucking channel to CNN.

However, the point still stands…Rosie, like you or anyone else, has the right to express her views. If someone decided they wanted to try to take that right from you (and it doesn’t matter if it is a person, a Broadcasting Company, or your boss) I think you would fight for it.

I think if she keeps acting the way she has been, she won’t need to issue many more ultimatums. Her ratings have slid downward recently, in part because as she becomes more and more political she also becomes less entertaining. For the same reason that I found Kathie Lee distasteful I am also beginning to find Rosie O’Donnell distasteful.
Yes, she has a right to talk to Barbra Streisand. But does she have a right to air a political commercial thinly disguised as an interview? No, because in this country the media has to give equal time to both candidates. And her employer has every right to protect itself from sanctions.
As far as issuing ultimatums, more power to her. But, frankly, it makes me want her candidate to lose even more.
