As thousands of youngsters looked on in befuddlement. “Mommy, why is Rosie kissing that lady?”
There goes her big comeback with the “WHO WANTS TO MARRY ROSIE O’DONNELL?” reality show. (Please tell me she didn’t work the phrase “cutie patootie” into her vows.)
But she’s gay…
For the easily offended please note, the above was a joke
What really sucks, is we can’t escape to Canada to get away from this debauchery like we could with Nam.
Anyone want to send her a create-ful of old Tickle-Me-Elmos as a gift?
Did the guests throw Koosh balls rather than rice?
I think a better question would be, “why is that lady kissing Rosie O’Donnell??”
welp… this is why gay marrage is illegal! they will film the video of the honeymoon… and it will get out… and we will all DIE
George Bush will be so devastated, because now the baby Jesus is crying.
This is the absolute worst, most devastating and destructive thing that could ever happen to the institution of gay marriage.
Her statements to the press on the steps following the ceremony suggested the marriage was in part motivated by the President’s recent comments. You also gotta wonder if she’s just suffering from attention withdrawl with interest over her magazine trial winding down.
Watching her step away from her partner to singly address the media, I really began to feel some strong pity for the other woman.
Good for her. Of course now she has to pay more in taxes. . .
One does not throw balls at a lesbian wedding.
I’m sure that supporters of same-sex marriage are thrilled to have Ms. O’Donnell on their side. All those previously wavering fence-sitters will be just stampeding to join their cause now. Bush is doomed! Doomed, I tell you!
Golly, is it ever not amusing to read people slagging a couple for getting married! If anyone had actually read some of the surrounding information they would have learned that Rosie was fairly indifferent to the idea of SSM until the trial, at which time she was advised that she and her partner did not enjoy spousal privilege. Every conversation, letter, email, every communication they had was admissible as evidence, something that would never happen to a married couple. If that’s what it took to politicize her on this issue and if she and her wife are happy in their relationship and their marriage, why not, oh, be happy for them?
I am all for gay marriages and find the anti-gay marriage arguments to be either offensive, hateful, or just plain dumb. That said though, I find Rosie’s recent “militant lesbianism” to be rather spurious and even self-serving.
Rosie spent her entire career in the closet. For years, she hid her sexuality and gushed romantic over Tom Cruise. Then, having made millions, and tired of a daily work schedule, she comes out, and hops on a pedastle preaching to the masses. That seemed awfully fishy to me - coming out just when she planned to quit her show & magazine, knowing full well that the network & publishers wouldn’t let her simply walk away. It seems to me that Rosie was banking on the network to balk at a talk show with a lesbian host, and let her leave the show without a fight. In effect, she deliberately wanted to milk anti-gay sentiments in order to get out of her contract with ABC. That’s not a move that instills me with a lot of gay pride.
Months ago, When Richard Chamberlain finally came out, he got slammed in these boards and elsewhere for coming out only AFTER it would not interfere with his getting acting parts. The same standard, IMO, ought to apply to Ms. O’Donnell. For her to set herself up as a spokesperson for LGBT-America now, only AFTER she’s made her millions and wants to wind down her talk-show career just seems hypocritical to me.
I will freely admit I don’t remember if she was still hosting her show when she came out but she was definitely still involved with the magazine after coming out. I am also fairly confident that she didn’t break her contract to leave her show. If you can back up your assertions with some cites I’d appreciate it.
Different people get radicalized at different times and in different ways. If Rosie has been radicalized and she’s willing to put her wealth, reputation and fame on the line then good on her. If she’s found true love in Kelli and has married her and they are happy, then good on both of them.
And if you don’t like it you can go watch Ellen.
I don’t think she ever “hid” her sexuality (speaking during her talkshow yrs, I’m not familiar with her beforehand) she just made it a non-issue. Whether or not she did it to have a mainstream image or just because she wanted to keep her private life private is debatable. I’m not understanding your bit about trying to get out of her contract with ABC, she simply didn’t renew her contract AFAIK.
On one of her earlier shows she and Ellen Degeneres made some jokes about being “lebanese” which was very wink wink. The Tom Cruise thing was never, ever sexual. She always from the start said she just wanted him to come over to her house and mow her lawn or whatever. I know I adore certain actors the same sex as me, almost like a “crush” but there isn’t anything sexual to them.
Just because someone is gay, or black or disabled shouldn’t mean they have to automatically be spokespeople for the cause.
Only if she and her new wife have comparable income levels. If only 1 partner is a wage earner and the other makes practically nothing, the couple end up paying less in income taxes than if they were single.
