Based on the four or five times I’ve caught the show, I vote for Clay. In my opinion his voice is just a proverbial peg or two above Ruben’s, though both would certainly very good singers.
I’m very glad that two non-stereotypically attractive contestants are the contestants that wound up vying for first. It’s good to see that a program that set out to find the best singers in America didn’t turn that criteria into, The Best Singers in America Who Are Also Terribly Attractive.
There was a girl during the first season who was told by Simon that although she was a good singer, she was too heavy to fit the Idol image. It burns my butt that Ruben isn’t being held to that standard because he’s male.
I don’t get Clay at all. I guess I can see that he’s got a good voice, and that he’s technically talented. He just seems very karaoke to me. Very lounge-singer. Plus he’s a total goofball. Under the tenets of the competition, such as they are, it should be Ruben all the way.
They will both have a middling career, Ruben in the Luther Vandross vein where he has a hit every once in a while and sings the National Anthem at the Olympics, Clay in the Barry Manilow/Vegas/Broadway adaptation of a Disney Movie vein.
I think they’re both far ahead of the last one (Kelly something) so if she had a #1 record, maybe I’m off on this.
Does either of them play an instrument or write music?
Dung Beetle, it’s possible that someone this season was disqualified because she didn’t fit the “stereotypical” American Idol image. Frenchie was an amazing singer, but she was as large as Ruben, and was disqualified for posing in lingerie on a website. She disclosed the info, and it wasn’t illegally done, but she was booted just the same.
If someone has different info, then please enlighten me, but it seems that the producers were out of line in disqualifying her.
Yes, like I said: I think Ruben will most definitely win this if he gets the most votes. However, if Clay does, then he’'ll without a doubt come out the victor.
Look for it to come down to these two tonight, with one of them winning the competiton. Most likely Clay. (Or possibly Ruben.)
I tried to vote (many many times) for Clay and didn’t get through a single time. I hope Clay wins because he comes across as more intelligent in his interviews. I respect Clay for teaching special needs students.
On the other hand, Ruben dropped out of school and punched out his brother for trying to take his turkey sandwich. When Ruben finishes a song, it sounds like the audience is booing (they are actually saying his name). Also, I get a chuckle each time someone calls him “Rube”.
Also, I feel that FOX should have gotten some extra capacity on those phone lines. If I’m going to bother to vote, I want it to at least count. And their benefit is more accurate results along with larger numbers for Seacrest to claim.
It would probably be a good idea to get your facts together before you post something as an “absolute” – especially when it turns out to be incorrect.
Happy, are you happy because you’re taking some of Paula’s drugs? We all realize that whoever gets the most votes will win – that’s the whole point of the set-up of this show! Do you have an actual coherent point you’d like to make, or am I totally missing something here?
She was on Howard this morning and claimed that she did disclose it.
My theory: she was way, way, way better than anyone else and it would have been too obvious from the outset that she was going to win. She is REALLY talented. And I don’t think she’s quite as large as Ruben, but she is a bigger woman. I would love to see her in Rent.
