I just learned the other day that Larry Mann (the voice of Yukon Cornelius) was the brother Paul Mann who played Lazar Wolf in the movie Fiddler on the Roof.
Just so everyone knows, the whole thing is up on Youtube.
I saw a reference to this thread on another board, and decided to keep it alive even though Christmas 2021 has come and gone.
I just watched it for this season last night. I am slow.
Perhaps you ought to live on the Island of Misfit Toys…?
Playing right now on CBS….
Thanks for the heads-up! Love those sled dogs!
My daughter has been trying us on ditching cable and just stream the local channels on Hulu. BUT Frosty and Rudolph are blocked; it seems that while CBS has broadcast rights, they doesn’t have streaming rights for some shows. Sad.
Um… I’ll just point out that the lead dog (up front, on the left) is a Dachshund.
Yeah - Apple has exclusive streaming rights to Rudolph. We found that out the hard way last night.
Well, that explains that - I noticed Frosty was on but got an unavailable message from Hulu. I assumed it was some glitch, but apparently not. That sort of thing has the possibility of really screwing up viewing network TV for various classics.
If you have the Freeform channel both Rudolph and Frosty are on Saturday night. The "25 Days of Christmas" Schedule | Freeform Updates

Nobody seems to know about the doll. This page , which denotes characters’ script names in ALL CAPS, calls her the MISFIT GIRL DOLL and says that producer Arthur Rankin and script writer Romeo Muller both state that the doll’s problem is psychological rather than physical, but give no details. There is a link at the bottom of the cited page to a second page continuation.

When I saw this thread was started in 2000, I though the link above to the tvparty site would be dead. . . nope. Looks the same seems like. That’s 22 year old webpage. It just blows my mind to consider the possibility of webpages getting older and older. Pretty soon there will be webpages that are over 100 year old. Can you imagine if you could look back and see “webpages” from 1922. Anyway. . . .
I was just talking to BMalion about the beloved, if now troubling, Christmas classic. We wondered… is Rudolph’s mom ever named? We didn’t think she was.
23 years later for the thread and 59 years later for the show.
According to Britannica, reindeer have a life expectancy of 15 to 20 years, with the 20 years for reindeer in captivity. I suppose these deer qualify as captive. Thus assuming the big storm was a few years before the 1964 showing (say 1960), Rudolph likely died in the early 1980’s at the latest. If the red nose trait is passed down genetically we can further suppose it is several generations down from the original gang now pulling the sleigh and there may be many red-nosed reindeer. Perhaps the entire lot. We can hope.
Perhaps Santa’s Christmas magic includes reindeer life extension.
I heard Yukon Cornelius died from a combination of gold poisoning (constantly licking the end of his pick-axe) and a venereal disease jokingly called, “The Bumble Bounce.”
That’s like a backwards lemon squeeze, except the other one’s on top…so I’ve heard.
