Rudolph, you'll go down in history (like ___)

George Washington. Chicago in the 50s.

lightbulb, Pinocchio, Monopoly, ho ho ho, whoopee (or yippee), George Washington

Knoxville TN, late 1970s

Born and raised in northern California, and I’ve never heard any of these ‘extra lyrics’. The last word of the song has always been ‘history’ for me.

Here’s all of the additions I learned:

Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer (reindeer)
Had a very shiny nose (Like a light bulb)
And if you ever saw it (Saw it)

All of the other reindeer (Like Blitzen)
Use to laugh and call him names (like pichnoccio)
They wouldn’t let poor Rudolph (Rudolph)
Join in any reindeer games (like monopoly)

Then all the reindeer loved him (loved him)
And they shouted out with glee (WITH GLEE)
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer (reindeer)
You’ll go down in History (like Columbus)

I, my sister, and my sister’s children are all northeast Ohio born and bred. When my sister and I were kids, it was “Columbus”. But her kids now apparently sing “George Washington”. When I mentioned this, both they and I were baffled that it could be anything but what we had each thought.

Oh, and the name is “Pinocchio”, and the game is “Monopoly”. That much, at least, transcends generations.

We always did the ‘like ____s’. Most of them have been mentioned apart from the one our eight-year old minds liked the most: "Santa came to stay (in his underwear!)
Yeah, I really don’t know who came up with that.

I never heard of anything like this. Back in the Stone Age, we just sang the song as it was written. Perhaps instead of asking for our location, our ages may be more relevant.

Alexander Graham Bell. Wisconsin, late 70s.

I didn’t know about this 10 years ago but since I have kids I have learnt the callbacks. They sing

like Pinocchio
like Monopoly
like the dinosaurs

with a ‘Yippee!’ after ‘with glee’ as well

-Sydney, Australia

Yep, Ohio. Pinocchio, Monopoly, and George Washington. I’m 42.

Never heard of anything after “history.” Grew up in Boston area.

Mn, Jackie Gleason, 1970’s.

Never heard of any of the others.

But then again, beef commercials only have six hits on Google. I’m not sure if I was raised by wolves or what.

Like Columbus!

South Texas.

This, Saskatchewan.

Never heard of Lincoln or Washington or anything else on the end.

GW, though Simpsons first episode made Attilla the Hun a common alternative, never heard it as Columbus.

MI

“like George Washington!”

Grew up in upstate New York.

Only a YEC could possibly come up with the idea that dinosaurs are part of history.

“Like a lightbulb” this was in the Chicagoland suburbs in the mid nineties.

Western PA, Columbus.

So with these replies, do you mean there were no callbacks at all, or just no callbacks after the last line? I’m wondering, because I do have recollection of the other callbacks, as mentioned above, but I don’t remember there being anything after the last line, and it seems weird to me to stick something there, whereas in the other callbacks, you had one music phrase leading into another where callbacks do work.
