Rules for a street fight, when to stop..?

I’ll second that. It’s a fascinating book

Get a doberman. Or a chihuahua.

If you are not good at fighting, don’t fight. If someone starts the fight by whacking you in the back of the head, you have already lost no matter how good you fight. If you get a mugger that has no knife or gun, I got nothing cause this doesn’t happen. But if it does, you at least have a chance, again IF you are good at fighting. No one here can turn you into a fighter by typing to you.

Thanks All for taking the time!

I will try and do my walking in lighted areas as much as possible, and will still carry my Cold Steel Voyager 2 6-inch folder. I live in a world where there are plenty of two-legged wolves running around but, who knows?, maybe with some luck I can stay in the game for a while.:dubious:

I cannot think of anything worse than being in a fight. You stand a large chance of being killed or seriously hurt. and if your opponent falls and dies (from a heart condition) you will (most likely) be charged with murder. No upside, huge downside. Run away…it is the safest course of action.

Rule #1. Don’t get into a street fight.
Rule #2. Re-read rule #1.
Rule #3. If it does happen, respond as peaceably as possible, but as forcefully as necessary.

I highly recommend martial arts training (duh! :D) There are some basic concepts of self-defense that you will learn and the training will enable you to implement them easier. The basic self-defense model is: Distract / Release / Stun / Run.

And to expand upon the stun aspect…the desirable outcome is that the bad guy falls into one or more of these categories:

He

  1. can’t see you
  2. can’t breathe
  3. can’t put his hands on you
  4. can’t stand up

If at least one of those is true, you can escape to a place of safety.

Once you are no longer threatened, immediately call the police. I strongly advocate that you follow the same guidelines that Massad Ayoob teaches for firearm encounter situations:

  1. Call 911
  2. Officer this person attacked me, I will sign the complaint,
  3. Officer here is the evidence (knife, gun, ball bat, whatever).
  4. Officer these are the witnesses.
  5. Officer you will have my full cooperation in 24 hrs after I see my attorney.

Bottom line - as a martial artist, I advocate running away from the encounter first and foremost. Nobody gets hurt that way. If you are forced to defend yourself, the asshole will probably get an ambulance chasing attorney and sue you.

Rule #1: Kick her in the nuts.
Rule #2: Do NOT get kicked in the nuts.
