Batman Arkham Asylum game of the year edition is 66% off at Steam this weekend. Probably the best licensed superhero game ever.
They’re having THQ week on steam, which means different games every day. Today it’s the red faction games. They’ll probably cycle through everything in the THQ pack.
The game DogFighter is only $1.50 concurrent with a new content patch. I haven’t played it much yet but it seems like a fun little arcadey 3d dogfighter game so I suggest you get it at that price.
Numen: Contest of Heroes which is a 3d action RPG is $2
Telltale Games is offering episode 203 of Sam and Max AND the first episode of their upcoming Back To The Future game for free:
Pretty big halloween sale on Steam. It’s mostly halloween themed games with a few others mixed in.
Today’s THQ sale is Frontlines: Fuel Of War for $3. It looked kinda interesting but had a dead online community due to not having dedicated servers at launch. Then they made them, but it was still dead. Maybe this sale will infuse a community.
As for the halloween sale, nothing strikes me irresistable. Bioshock at $5 is obviously a great deal but I’d imagine everyone’s played it by now. L4D1/2 for $10 each or $15 both. Dead Space for $10. The new Worms game for $10. Plants vs Zombies $5. The new AVP game for $10. Misc other stuff.
The Theater of War games are all 75% and Trine is 75% off through today. All the grand theft auto games are 75% off through the weekend except GTA 4. You can get a package with GTA 1/2/3/San Andreas/Vice City for $7.50. If you don’t like Trine at $5, you are a bad person.
Unfortunately, the Mac version of Trine is broken–as in instant-crash-on-launch broken. They’re promising a fix asap (and have posted a work around if you’re willing to mess around in Terminal), but right now it won’t launch at all, apparently for anyone. The developer said in the forums that they made a last minute “fix” before launch that turned out to break everything. Oops. Doesn’t speak real highly of their quality control, but at least they’re being honest about it and trying to fix the mistake quickly.
On a related note, I’ve been downloading quite a few games off Steam since they released the Mac version, and other than this one issue, I’ve been really impressed. Steam is a great service, and I’ve gotten some real bargains.
Even more sales and a free weekend. They’ve made a “frontier pack” of lead and gold and shattered horizon. Which is unusual, since they’re two seperate games with different publishers and developers. Anyway, the games are free to play this weekend, and they’re half price ($7.50 for L&G, $10 for SH) - or bundle them together for $12.50.
Lead and Gold is a really fun game that I highly recommend at that price if you the trailer makes it seem like your type of game. Or just give it a try. Shattered Horizon is pretty interesting too - but with hefty system requirements. It’s a pretty advanced technology game, but it makes better use of lighting in gameplay than just about anything I can think of.
Supreme Commander 2 is $5.
They’ve already got this fixed…pushed out an update this evening. Trine seems like a cool game so far.
I’ve been so addicted to collecting new video games that even though I already have over 200 games on steam and probably haven’t even touched 70 of them yet, I’m anxious with anticipation for the black friday sale. MOAR!!!
For some reason, Age of Empires 3 complete collection is on the games for windows live marketplace for $.10. You can buy it for 10 xbox live points if you have them randomly sitting in your account.
For those who missed the decimal point in the previous post, that’s a 10 cent price. As in one thin dime.
At that price they must just be covering the bandwidth costs of downloading all the games.
It’s probably an error and they meant it to be $10. If they had meant it to be a promotional near-giveaway it’d probably be mentioned somewhere on the page.
Direct2drive is having one of the most clever promotions I’ve ever seen.
One of 5 orders is free. Every fifth person just gets the order without anything ever charging to their credit card.
Steam is having a sweepstake where they’re giving 30 accounts the top 5 things on their wishlists for free. You have to have at least 10 games on your list to be eligible.
Also, stuff on sale.
Sheesh, I couldn’t pass up Deus Ex and Deus Ex: Invisible War for $5. No idea when I’m going to find time to play them, but I missed them the first time around and have heard good things. Steam is dangerous to your pocketbook. A couple bucks here, a couple bucks there…
For the big sales, I go ahead and create a thread just for them. So if you want to coordinate group buys with the gift pack or ask about any games on sale or anything, I suggest trying there.
I don’t normally mention non-digital distribution sites, but gogamer.com is having a 48 hour black friday sale with some crazy cheap games. I hate dealing with DVDs and all that, but at those prices I’ll have to pick up a few things.
Spore is $6 on Amazon’s digital download service. I know the game is a dissapointment but for $6 what the hell.
Make sure you click the “pc download” button under platform - the retail boxed game and download share the same page.
I don’t know how long amazon lets you redownload the game or any of their policies, but the install process itself was smooth and quick.
Edit: The faq says it’s infinitely redownloadable with no mention of limits. Spore auto-patched itself but I don’t know how other games work - if you can install retail patches or if you need special digital distribution patches.
D2D has the stronghold collection for $5. Not sure if they’re any good. It’s “2k games week” there so I assume it’s one of those new sale every day things. D2D is still running the every 5th order is free thing.
A ton of strategy games are 70% off on gamersgate, pretty much every Europa Universalis game and expansion, the king arthur rpg/wargame, and some others. others.
GamersGate has a bunch of random games 40-60% off.
I didn’t buy anything during the sale because I’d been burned on a lot of purchases lately and I have so many unfinished games as it is. Now that it’s over, I’m regretful of my decision.
