I recently got an IPod Nano for Christmas and I am interested in hearing recomendations for the best way to use it while running. I don’t like the feel of it in my pocket, so does anyone have any info on the best arm straps and things like that?
How comfortable are you with just putting it in the compartment on the treadmill?
I don’t have much to contribute but I just wanted to pop in and say that you have an awesome user name.
I don’t know that there is much of a difference between arm bands, and I don’t run. But I do walk (a lot!) with my dog and needed a way besides my pocket to carry my iPod classic. I looked on Amazon and found an armband that is basically just a velcro strap that came with a silicone cover. The strap runs through the back of the silicone, velcros around my arm and has stayed pretty secure and comfortable. It cost me something like 6 bucks…
An excellent suggestion - until you want to run outside. At that point you realise you have to pull a treadmill along, which is somewhat less convenient than having the iPod in your pocket.
I’ve bought no-name arm bands from eBay, and they’ve generally been okay. I have, however, eventually gone back to putting it in my pocket, because I didn’t like the headphone cable flapping around when I used an arm band. I find something that helps me is to have the cable run under my shirt, so it doesn’t move about quite so much.
I put it in my sports bra.
Was that helpful?
True, didn’t think about running outside. Probably because it’s so cold outside right now it never even came to mind.
I feel like a rat in a cage when I run on a treadmill. I’ll take below-zero temps over that.
Most jackets or other outer layers made for running have an iPod pocket in the chest area with a hole for headphone wires. That’s the only way I can carry it without excessive bouncing.
In-depth NPR programming such as RadioLab is great for running.
That’s what I do, too. Sucks to be a guy when it comes to iPods and running.
I have a great iPod armband made by Roots. I would recommend it, plus it’s a zippered pouch so you can keep other things (car key) in there when you run outside.
I have a Griffin AeroSport Armband that I enjoy running with.
