I am a fan of Rush Limbaugh, but I will admit that he has said some things that weren’t in the best judgement. You have to realize that many of the things Rush says that bug you seem offensive only because he’s speaking from a conservative viewpoint. It’s obvious that if you are a liberal, a conservative show like Rush’s is going to piss you off. Rush likes to do parodies. Some of the things he says that seem mean are meant as a humorous commentary. It often doesn’t come across that way, and he often reads or mentions E-mails he gets from people who are livid over one of these things he said, and he has to explain it was a joke. I’ve never heard Rush seriously say something like, “Boy, I’m glad (so-and-so-Democratic senator) has cancer! That’ll teach him a lesson! There’s poetic justice in that!”. Rush doesn’t let his political opponents get away with much, but I’m pretty sure he would never, ever rejoice over another person’s handicaps, or injuries, or whatever. Rush isn’t really mean, he just dislikes liberal viewpoints and isn’t afraid to say what he thinks about them.

I take no pleasure in Rush Limbaugh going deaf.
But when he “joked” about Chelsea Clinton being “ugly”, how is that different from theses people “joking” about him going deaf?
He certainly SEEMED to take pleasure in her being “ugly”, just as these people seem to take pleasure in his going deaf. Maybe if they explain that they’re “just joking”, that will make it better?

Frank O. Pinion, you are a liar, because that’s the only thing you know how to do–lie. JUST JOKING!
Frank O. Pinion, it is obvious that you – and all of your ilk – hate the United States and all it stands for. JUST HUMOROUS COMMENTARY!
Fraaaaaaaank Ohhhhh-Pinnnnnniooooonnnnn, consevo-nazis like yourself are so ugly that they are filled with hate for humanity. BUT THERE ARE ONLY ABOUT FIVE CONSERVO-NAZIS, IN THE WORLD, SO DON’T THINK I’M INCLUDING YOU!
Repeat the above for 13 1/2 years, and you might start to get the idea that I’m actually disguising verbal assaults as “humor”. And you’d be right.
Clearly Rush is a jerkfor saying that. I am familiar with such jerks. I have had people say cruel things about my weight all my life. But I wouldn’t take any pleasure in knowing that they went blind, or deaf. That’s just too drastic a thing to be able to enjoy. Too much misfortune - I couldn’t take pleasure in that. But if they were to gain weight and maybe get a huge butt? I would not make fun of them, but I wouldn’t feel too sorry for them… Having a big butt is not a permanent disability, after all.
What Rush said about Chelsea was shitty. But the difference is - Chelsea isn’t ugly. And being “ugly” (which she is not) is not a permanent, possibly devastating disability. It was just an opinion. One man’s shitty, flea-bitten opinion.
When people have made fun of my weight, they were not reveling in me having a permanent disability. And yet, they were clearly being jerks. If it’s being a “jerk” to make fun of someone’s weight, or appearance, it certainly is being a “jerk” to revel in someone’s deafness. Even another big jerk’s deafness.

I think Winston Churchill disagreed with that. Of course, he was drunk at the time…
