That’s probably not a line we want to cross, not unless it’s in retaliation for them attacking us first. Besides, private groups are already doing this and have been. We can just sit back and watch the fun, as it’s not us doing it.
I do think we should be looking to augment our retaliation for state-sponsored cyber attacks, especially if they can be proved, though, honestly, we don’t know that isn’t or hasn’t happened. The best cyber attacks are ones that the people being attacked never know happened…or, for their own reasons, want to keep the fact they got hacked very, very quiet.
I thought of that but after all, we did not retaliate (that we know of) their alleged interference in two elections, it would restrain them from going at them with the gloves off.
In any event it’s all in the shadows and successful operations are the ones we never hear of.
A friend of mine is Russian, now a naturalized American. In her view, Putin supporters are like Trump supporters: in their media bubbles, filled with maximum propaganda and minimum facts. The hard-core have turned off their brains and do whatever the leader says. There are also apparently many Russians completely fed up with Putin, but not willing to risk themselves or their families by saying so in any identifiable way.
It gives me hope that Russia is not totally lost and fear of how close America is to becoming lost.
That they (as well as China, Iran, and a few others) interfered is pretty much a sure thing. But I don’t think there is any evidence, that I’ve seen anyway, that they hacked the election through cyber means. Instead, they used fake news and social engineering, which is more of a gray area. And, as you said, we don’t know if we did in fact go after them on this front. I wouldn’t be surprised if we have launched our own cyber-attacks from time to time, justified by stuff like the election or not.
I guess Macron met with Putin earlier and Putin told Macron that he’s willing to negotiate…as long as Russia has full sovereignty over Ukraine, Ukraine is demilitarized and, well, Putin really, really liked that shirt Macron was wearing so…
I think the French president is really making progress in these negotiations. Putin is not demanding Eastern Europe or the Baltic states, at least not in this session, so…progress!
I suspect he does too, and I’m not taking anything away from him trying, but Putin is making demands that, simply, are not possible unless Russia wins big time on the battlefield…in which case, they are moot anyway.
If they drive into a confined area, the Ukrainians can disable the lead vehicles and the trailing vehicles. It would be nice if they could do that with drones. With the middle vehicles immobile, they can peck at them with whatever weapons they can muster.
