Russia invades Ukraine {2022-02-24} (Part 1)

A hurry.

They could’ve left in a huff.

Stolen bicycles, stolen cars, and on foot, according to various articles.

Sometimes after stealing civilian clothes so they could ditch their uniforms.

Russian equipment, so more like a minute and a huff.

When danger reared its ugly head
He bravely turned his tail and fled
Brave, brave sir Russian

“If there’s no city, there’s nothing to defend. How many cities do you want to lose?”

Two dead collaborators. Boo-hoo.
They’re finding hundreds of tortured bodies in Izium. How many murders were Oleg Boyko and wife responsible for?

The Guardian

I guess the area is still under Russian control? In which case cynical me assumes that the Russians killed them for reasons unknown, and are blaming Ukraine. The reason could have been to blame Ukraine, but there was probably something else (if the Russians did the deed).

I will say that I hope it was quick.

The fact they left out the details makes me think that it was not.

To be clear, they’re now finding (more) evidence of Russians torturing Ukrainians.

I think Ukraine is responding to the missle attacks against Kharkiv power grid and the dam that resulted in flooding in Kryviy Rih.

Two wrongs don’t make a right. Extrajudicial killing* is always wrong, even if the person in question is a murdering quisling**. Don’t protest war crimes if you’re going to commit war crimes.

These things do happen, because war sucks. But I don’t give anyone a pass because someone else is worse.

*We don’t actually know for sure at this time that he was murdered by Ukrainians.
**We don’t actually know for sure if he (or his wife) caused anyone to be murdered.

I don’t know that it’s that clear-cut. If they were actively collaborating with the military occupation, trying to establish the occupying military force as the government, doesn’t that make them fair military targets?

excellent reading!!! - addressing probably a very relevant problem in russia’s culture…

.

… and it is also probably easier to understand how russian DOD reports stuff like “The Moscva made it into port under its own power” - when everybody can see the Moscva’s debris floating as a patch the size of Rhode Island.

Isn’t all war extrajudicial killing? Or is it OK if you don’t know their names?

Assassinating collaborators is not remotely wrong, I hope they do more and more of it, keeping their own safety in mind.

His job title was deputy head of military civil administration. I think he would be involved in finding and arresting anyone opposing the Russian occupation.

Imho They were military targets.

I also have my doubts: the “civil guy” trying to recruit those inmates on y’days videos … should he be fair game? … or does the fact that he wears office-shoes and not combat boots guarantee his life? …

fairly blury line … and it gets blurier:
